I will be shooting a Winchester sx4 and very new to duck hunting. What would y’all recommend for some teal? I will be hunting over decoys on a pond.

Shoot the same thing I shoot all of season. 1 1/5oz of #3s in a 3in shell through a mod choke. It works great on teal during big duck so why change?

#6 steel through an IC choke should be good medicine for those little ducks...and no need for 3" shells as the 2&3/4" ones will do just fine.

We get most of them in tight, 10-25 yards over dekes. When I shoot MOD you will tear many birds in half. Shoot Heavy X can shoot 4s w IC out to 40-50 yards no problem

Depends on how the birds are flying. IC and up, probably.
If you're on the bird the choke won't matter. If you're in front or behind the bird, chokes won't matter.

Haven't hunted in about 4yrs. Lord I've missed the banter I read on this Forum. Keep it up and I'll be shooting #9 dove loads IC 20ga.

I don't see them much any more, if at all, but Winchester used to sell 20 gauge steel 7-1/2. When I could find them this is what I carried. I just switched from a modified to an improved choke. I used this for dove on ponds during early teal just in case any showed up. Bagged quite a few teal this way. Teal arean't hard to kill. I do miss the pre-steel days when you could just use what you used on dove for the occasional teal. Just had to have your duck stamp!

If you are a good shot use full choke --------- if you cant hit the side of a barn , use IC.

If you are a good shot use full choke --------- if you cant hit the side of a barn , use IC. You can’t even use full choke on most steel loads, will banana your barrel. On teal over decoys I have shot threads, no choke and smoked teal at 40 yards. MOD patterns like FULL with Waterfowl loads. IC plenty unless shooting 100% passing shots, or ducks not decoying, cutting you short
