I shoot mine left handed. That seems to avoid the issue.

I have seen someone engage the slide stop lever while shooting. When I looked at what they had done I saw that the off hand was positioned where it was causing the thumb of the shooting hand (right hand shooter) to be pushed upward. A slight adjustment of the grip corrected that. With the ambi slide stop lever this might take place with either a right or left handed shooter. I have a gen 5 and there are no issues for me. Never had it happen with any of the Glocks I have.

I have a Gen 5 G19 (personal) and a Gen 5 G45 (issued) and I haven't had that issue. I'm not personally aware of anyone who has that problem either. If you don't have that issue with a Gen 4 you shouldn't have it with a Gen 5. They didn't change the dimensions of the grip or the slide stop lever for the Gen 5's.

If this is due to the extended slide release. It’s the first mod I do to every Glock I’ve bought and I’ve bought a lot. I’ve never had this issue.

It's all based on how you hold the gun. My oldest son had taken one of my Glocks to the range and when he came home he reported having this problem. I took the gun out of the case, ensured it was clear and told him to hold it like he was going to shoot..bingo - his grip was too high and he was engaging the slide stop during operation. Told him I taught him better than that. His bigger problem (took us forever to figure it out) is he's left handed but right eye dominant....I'm normal, I can't even process that... Earl
