The gun gun thread got me thinking what’s your “one that got away”? A firearm that you regret selling or one you regret not buying?

Mine is a H&R Ultra Varmint 25-06. Bought it at a pawn shop for $175 and it would shoot an inch or better if I did my part all day long at 100 yards. Sold it two years ago to make up the difference in cash I was needing in a trade deal for a Winchester 94 and have missed not having it on the back seat of my truck everyday since

Rem 788 in 6mm. Previous wife pawned it in 83 when I was overseas. I could shoot a birds eye out at 100yds with that gun. I was lucky enough to get my Winchester 25 12 gauge out though.

For YEARS (back in the 80s) one of our nearby farm supply stores had a Model 70 Featherweight in .257 Roberts. It was gorgeous, the stock rivaled the one on Buzz' new gun even though it was just a production rifle. Every single time I went in there for t-posts, wire, stock supplies, I ogled that rifle. I bet they had it for 6-7 years. It would have been a whitetail-slaying machine and one to pass on. However, I was never in a position to buy it.

S&W 686 6". I had a gunsmith smooth and reduce the trigger. Awesome shooter but got into the 9mm craze while in college and traded it. Will always regret that decision.

JP Sauer built Weatherby Mark V in 300 Weatherby Mag.
I dont think I've every seen such deep or rich bluing. Metal to wood
tolerances were perfect. I've never seen a finer testament to the gunmakers art.
I should've bit the bullet, I could've scraped the cash together.

Had the opportunity to purchase Winchester Model 12 serial number 56 in 20 ga. That's right number 56. Until the guy figured out what it was and it got yanked away from me. This was after the deal was made. Was sold at a gun show that Saturday.
I'm a wiser man today.

Ruger stainless Blackhawk in .357. Was a troopers gun and had a trigger and hammer kit on it. Was lights out accurate.

When I was 18 or 19 I sold it to a buddies dad to fund a business ( pyramid scheme I got hosed on ) that didn’t make.

I sold the guy a ranch last year but didn’t have it in me to ask him to sell me the pistol back

I've only had two serious regrets trading guns over the years.

The one I traded that I shoulda kept? My old 6" Python from the late '70s. The one I've always wanted but never made a deal on? A Colt Woodsman Match Target...either 4" or 6"; I ain't picky.

Mark

Took a custom Ruger No 1 in 300 RUM to Africa. Needed some cash while in college and sold it. Now that I am older, I regret letting it go.

S&W 586 4". It was the fist handgun I purchased on my 21st birthday. I sold it the last semester of college to cover expenses. I guess it was worth it.

I sold an Ishevsk SKS to a member here on the forum a couple of years ago. I was trying to get ready for a move and scale down the collection to what I shoot the most, but I really do miss having that gun in my collection.

I regret letting a co-worker borrow an old Ted Williams .22 rifle so he could teach his son how to shoot. He son would later sell it for dope. It was the first and last time I'll ever let someone borrow a firearm that leaves my sight.

Colt National Match TALO Royal edition (nickel, not blued). 1/300, all special S/Ns. Had a single digit serial number one I found in a pawn shop in Houston. Original blue box, all papers, gorgeous wood box, unfired, mint condition. They had it marked like a regual, pre owned National Match- $999. Ended up paying that out the door for it. Got talking to a gentlemen online about it trying to gather info, and he made me an offer I couldnt refuse at the time. Since Im not much of a "collectible gun" collector, I sold it to him. Sort of wish I hadnt now.

Twice I've had friends agree to sell me a gun then back out. The first time it was a Winchester model 64 .32Special. Agreed on price, I went home to get the money and when I came back the seller backed out. The second time was a .44 Ruger Super Blackhawk 7 1/2" barrel. We were at a shooting range and my friend couldn't hit anything with it at any range. I agreed to buy it for $200 after I shot it. When I put three bullets in 1 1/2" at 25 yards, the seller backed out.
