Hey guys I have a mule deer hunt coming up (kinda last minute) in november and have been playing around with barnes ttsx 100 gr and accubonds 110 grain. Ive tried them with H4831sc and H4350 but just getting groups arounds 1.5” at 100yards. Ive been told some people prefer IMR powders in the 25-06 anyone have any experience? I have been using H4831 and between 49-50 grains with 120 grain Speer Grand Slam and Speer BTSP. Those bullets are solid performers on deer sized game. The reloading manuals say you can increase the grains to about 54, but my gun develops pressure signs a little past 50 grains. It is a Winchester Model 70 and will shoot sub MOA with the above two loads. It will not shoot sub MOA with Hornady Interlocks or Nosler Partitions, but if your gun will, those are also solid bullets. I would shoot 120 grains if you can because that is what makes the 25-06 thump! Good Luck.

Is your barrel free-floated? What's your twist rate? What's your barrel length? Are the action screws tight? What's your powder charge testing process? Those are both outstanding powders, and if I couldn't get the rifle to shoot on either one of them, I would be looking at the rifle as the problem. We need to check boxes off, before moving powders again. And the stock might need to be bedded. What's the stock type? It might need pillars also.

Have you had other loads for the rifle shoot well? If so what were they?
You are using bullets I have had good groups with in 257 Roberts and 257 WBY '

think my old load was 51.5 or 52.0 H4831 with the 120 Hornady Interlock (old) Stick with lead core bullets . The only solid copper bullet to shoot is the Hammers, benchrest accuracy. JUst my experience.

Fireman to all your questions yes I just took the rifle apart cleaned the crap outta it put a nightforce rail and new rings. Its a 24” barrel and from what I understand has a 1/10 twist barrel. Back about 15 years ago it loved hornady superperformance 117’s then idk if they changed the powder charge or what but I tried four different boxes of it and it kept locking my bolt up after firing and had the primers starting flattening so I put it away for awhile. I got it back out about five years ago and tried some old remington corelokts 120 grainers in it and they were grouping right at an inch so Ive used those so far... just wanted to try a better bullet that would stabalize and get a better passthru.

Also I started about one grain over mid and worked my way up to max charge from what I could gather online and my books theres just not a lot of info on these combos. I will have to get my notes outta my truck tomorrow but maybe Im just not having enough powder to get them to shine.

I've had good luck with I4350 in the past with two 25.06 loads: 49gr and a 117 Sierra and 51.5gr and a 100 Nosler BT
but I keep going back to R22, it seems to shoot the best in my trio of 25.06's: 56gr and a 100 Nosler BT and 51gr and a 117 Sierra hit that "sweet spot"

Getting back to the original post for IMR loads, I just got back from range testing COL’s to finalize IMR4350 through my Kimber Montana. Powder charge was 48.0 which was determined by my ladder test. Longest COL was 3.25”, then 3.2, 3.15, 3.10 and 3.05. 3.25 gave me a 1.075 (3 of 4 were .603). 3.20 gave me a 4 shot group of .663. The rifle had an almost new barrel in it from Kimber. The test target from Kimber showed .60 3 shot group at factory. They used Nosler BT115 grn. So did I. If you decide to go with IMR it might be worth a shot.

Contact ChadTRG42 with Custom Reloads of Dallas if you want to try the 117's. I'm shooting his 117gr Interlock round out of my Sako with outstanding results. It's dispatched a 200+ lb Aoudad and Axis with ease, among other critters. No doubt in my mind it would do well on a big mule deer. Good luck on your up coming hunt brother!

I'm running H4831SC and Speer 120 BTSP in my 25-06. Don't recall the exact powder charge, but I remember it was just below book max.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I'm using h4831 as well. The SC version if I can find it. 54+ grains under a 115 berger shoots very well and performs good on game.

I have 4 Browning 25.06's. All of them shoot great with the Hornady Superperformance 117’s. My daughter hunts with one of the Xbolts and can literally call her shots. 3 of the hunters on my lease have switched over to 25.06 after seeing how well they shoot and drop animals DRT. I Have an Abolt medallion, 2- Xbolt medallions and a Xbolt White Gold Medallion. The target is the initial sight in on the abolt rifle. 3 shots to bullseye and then the 4 shot group. The pig I shot in the eye because it rammed my feeder pen.

I have developed loads for both the 110 gr. Accubond and the 100 gr. TTSX in my Remington 700 25-06. I highly recommend H1000 for the 110 to 120 grain bullets. My hunting load is the 110 gr. Accubond and 58.0 gr. of H1000. (Work up, of course). Very consistent, 3/4 MOA load at 3160 fps. I haven't had a chance to shoot a deer with it, but it is devastating on pigs. I've also had great results with H1000 and 115 gr. Partitions and 117 gr. Sierra Gamekings.
For the 100 gr. TTSX, you might try RL-22. My load is 56.2 gr. of RL-22 (this is slightly above Barnes' book max, but is below max in my rifle, so work up). Solid 3/4 to 1 MOA performer at 3340 fps. I haven't had the opportunity to use on big game, but I'm sure it would be very effective.
Good luck!
