One of my favorite things about traveling is seeing old windmills. I want one in my back yard to relive some of that nostalgia. Anybody have the blades to one that are in usable condition? I’ll make the rest of it.

I'd call around to the windmill repair shops and see if they have any laying around.

I moved into a subdivision with a pond. My lot had a windmill that fed the pond. I gave it away. I still cry.

Doesn’t need to be a working windmill, I’ve already priced one of those with plans on making it the pump for the pond, not happening. This is purely aesthetics.

Let me check in the morning, but I have the top part of an old one laying on the ground. It has been here since I bought my place and was an old one they took down. They replaced it with a newer one. Not tower just the fan. Not sure if it has the tail piece and how many of the vanes are damaged. The gearbox is there but not sure it if is in working condition. You can have it if it would work for you just not sure how to get it to you. IIRC it is an 8' fan and heavy.

I rescued a windmill from a dump in Phoenix. It sat in my father’s yard for 18 years. Was talking to a friend who has a ranch in Texas about solar powered well pumps. I asked why not windmills? Too expensive and hard to find in good condition. I tell him I have on, he says "What’s a city boy like you doing with a windmill?" I gave it to him.
His wife said when she was young there was a windmill outside her window that watched over her at night. If it was slowly squeaking all was well, if it got louder and faster it woke her up telling her a storm was coming and seek shelter.

If you want to get one that is decorative but functional, I'd highly recommend this guy. He rebuilds and installs and sells both decorative and functioning windmills and has a barn full of parts. He built my windmill ceiling fan and he's the nicest guy you'd ever meet. You'll have to go get it but it's a nice drive... Nebraska Windmills

So much wind goes between your ears on a daily basis I bet a windmill will not do you any good.

Some of the best quail hunting paintings had windmills in the background.

It's hard to find reliable windmill guys any more. Maintenance is a problem too, constantly having to re-leather them, replace broken sucker rods, etc. Also, when the dog days of summer hit and the animals are hammering the troughs, the lack of wind is a huge factor. We're about to drill a new well, and it will be solar or we'll bite the $10k bullet and run electricity to it.

They make for a good background in pictures.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Those are the small problems...fan is oval instead of round and the tail piece was broken off at the gear box. Looks like it was damaged during a hurricane type wind in the past. Cost more to repair it than it would be worth.
