I went to take the magazine plug out of my grandfather's Winchester 1897, and found this. I figured I'd find an old piece of wood, but one that was manufactured by a gun company. I thought it was pretty cool. He's been gone for almost 20 years. I know it's just a stick, but it gave me an image of him pulling it off a Cedar and cleaning it up with his old pocket knife.

That was a common occurrence back in the day. I used a fresh pine stick more than once. Thing is, we never got checked by the GW back then.

I have made a couple plugs way back in the day, once was a borrowed shotgun. the other was a pawnshop purchase.

Cool. I've found a piece of bamboo in a couple old shotguns.

Been there, done that. Opening day of dove season some years ago, and that third shell slipped right in. Took it apart in the dark and like your grandpa, cut a limb and whittled it down. Man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.

That's awesome. I used a dried sunflower stalk as a plug in my old 870 Wingmaster for years and years.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Pretty cool find.
All the inherited guns in my family have been some configuration of a break barrel.
How many of your take the plug in and out every year? I bought my 870 as a small kid put the plug in and never even think about it.

I've got the end of a pool cue in one of my old pumps. Think I put it in there somewhere around 1982.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Very cool...and you made me curious (and I remembered correctly)... This is part of an old drumstick from when my older brother took lessons in the late 1950’s.
