Have a new 45-70 and want a recommendation for a scope or red dot. What's on your 45-70?

1-4 Leupold, it works but if I were to replace it I might go for a 2-7 still a good field of view and larger objective and my 2X7s have better low light capability

I have tried about 8 different scopes on my Marlin 1895 including 1-4x Leupold Hog, scout scopes, 2-7X, etc and have finally settled on a Leupold FX-II 4x33mm. The glass is very good, has 4" of eye relief and is light weight. Eye relief is important to me as I load my 45-70 ammo a little hot and have the blood to prove it.

Winner winner! Well, at least I think so. That’s also what I put on levers.

Still has the 1-4X Nikon Kevin left on it.

Irons when all is said and done.

Gonna try all the way to the end of my range with good peep sights while my eyes can still do it.

Peep sights are the way to go on a lever. 45/70 is a short range gun...unless you are JG. I have a williams wgrs on one, and a skinner on another. I like them both.

Good peeps are awesome. Many have target inserts and moa click adjustments. My eyes forced me to give mine up and go to glass. Or my pride, maybe it’s my pride, still haven’t been to the eye dr.

Yeah, I installed peep sights on my 1895 a while back thinking they would work better for me than the original iron sites. Sorry to say my old eyes still couldn't handle them so I have to stick with optics.

Gunworks came out with an MOA turret for peep sights, although built for ML, bet it would work great on 45-70,
