I’m buying a new cordless drill today. Any brands to stay away from ? I only use mine around the house - not for work

Milwaukee has dont the job around the house for years. I dont think you can go wrong with any of them though.

They're all pretty solid. Rigid isn't great but the warranty is undeniable-you could save some money there if it's not for heavy use. Personally, I'd look at Milwaukee, Makita or DeWalt but my BIL has several Ryobis that have held up well. Pick one you like and then check all the reviews.

Well... that’s how I feel about the Rhyobi line... with the price point and warranty Rigid offers why would anyone even consider Rhyobi cordless tools?

Ive got several Ryobi cordless drills that are 20+ years old. They've gotten a LOT of use, they're beat to heck but still work as good as new.

The upside is I can use the same batteries for other useful (Ryobi) stuff.

I've been pleased with my Ryobi 18vt assortment. The pole saw and chainsaw are both cutting beasts. And i really appreciated my cordless fan in the blind last week when it was 106.

I know a guy that uses one of those cordless fans in a homemade portable airconditioner. It works like a champ.

Yep. Best to ask how recent someone's experience with a particular brand is. I've switched most of my cordless to Ridgid over the last couple of years.

+1 every Ryobi I ever touched was crap.

I’ve got a 12v Rigid drill that I would love for it to die because I have switched most everything else to Makita...but it won’t and if a battery dies HD will warranty it.

Rigid here, lifetime warranty on the batteries IF you buy as a bundle and closely follow the registration instructions. I don't think the lifetime battery warranty applies if you just buy a drill, battery & charger??? I bought a drill, nut driver, 2 batteries, changer and case for about $200+/-, registered it properly in the time frame stated (was a bit of a pain in the rear with registration). I had one battery start getting where it wouldn't hold a charge and thought I would merely go buy a higher aH rated battery for extended use, that's when I found out that those separately purchased batteries were not included in the lifetime warranty. So I merely took the "bad" battery to Home Depot service/returns desk, filled out a form and they handed me a new battery. Later I was needing a sawzall but went ahead and bought another bundled package (drill, nut driver, sawzall, 2 batteries, charger and case)... this gives me 4 batteries and 2 chargers that I can rotate the batteries to keep fresh ones on hand and one set of tools in the garage while one set lives in my truck.

I've had the original package about 7 years and only had to replace 1 battery.

I bought a Rigid 7-8 years ago. My first lithium battery rig. Both batteries are still good and I use it at least once a month. I also used it on three large projects. In the last few months the chuck has gotten stiff and I’ve had to use pliers to open it a few times instead of my hands. Overall still a great machine.

I have 20v Dewalt now and really like them. I have used Milwaukee on a ranch and they were great. They were hand-me-downs from the owners commercial plumbing construction company but they worked great for our use on the ranch. They were several years old when I got to the ranch and were still in use 6 yrs after I got there. He still has them today on his ranch and that would make them 20+ yrs old. New batteries one time is all we had to get for them in my 6 yrs.

Around the house use Milwaukee m12 brushless very light and handy lots of power for a 12v . If you ever need extra batteries you can find them nib cheap on the offer up app

If you have other cordless tools that have the same battery, might look at that brand so you have more batteries to share between tools. As for cordless drills, I like my Bosch.
