My plan, when the rifle arrives. Check serial Number, see when and where it was made New Haven, Portugal or Japan.

Separate barrelled action from stock, see what if any "bedding" there is. Wipe down and check all high luster bluing. Borescope it then clean the pee out of it see how dirty it is.

screw it all back together, Mount the scope, measure bullets to the lands, Load some rounds. Take it to the range, see if it will hit a barn door. If not , it will go off for bedding and a new trigger.

Miss anything?

Sounds like it but mine was made in South Carolina. Of course, they only made them in SC a year before moving production to Portugal.

Yes, it's a Super Grade from the Custom Shop, 7mm Mag. only got a 24" barrel, but I'm not shooting 1000 yards with it. Not even sure what twist 9 or 9.5 " I gotta guy" who is a Winny expert and will give me the low down on the gun when I get the SS

Once you realize it kills on both ends...this project has a short shelf life.

Sounds cool. If it's from the custom shop, I'm sure the wood is awesome.

He reloads so he can load it down to 7-08 velocities. He was mainly after the wood.

I remember us talking about it. I don’t like it either....although technically Scott is right....you could just load it down, buy some of those light 7mm hammers and don’t try to run them hard enough to burn a barrel out in a week wink. It’ll be like a kitten.

I’ve been tempted to try them because I like short barrels and lightening up the bullet helps offset some speed you lose.

It's what I would do. It's a hunting rifle, I would only load it to max velocity if I was going after something really big. Otherwise, it'd be a long action 7-08 for me.

Surprised you do not have it loaded already with the bullets seated long so when you find your length seat them to that and go shoot.

Buzz, if you don’t like recoil, light projectiles are your huckleberry In the 7RM. If you’re not looking to extend range, a 140 or even a 120 will do the trick. The faster burning powders that are ideal for lighter projectiles are better suited for that short barrel unless you like a Roman candle at twilight. Those super grades are nice. cheers

Back when powder companies gave away printed manuals for free there were reduced loads using 5744 powder in many cartridges, 7 RM was one of those. No longer have my od manual that had that data but found this online.

Accurate lists a starting load:
Sierra 140gr Soft Point Boat tail
CCI 250 Primer
27.5 Grains Acurate 5744 Powder
2050fps
Max: 45.5gr 5744
2948 fps

Or, even milder:
Speer 120gr Soft Point
CCI 250 Primer
Starting: 24.5 Grains Acurate 5744 Powder
2041fps
Max: 47.0gr 5744
3127fps

yes!! You don't want to turn me loose with Accraglass or and bedding compound, crap will go everywhere. Best left to a pro who works with wood a lot.

Probably end up with a load of H4350 with the 150 Ballistic Tips. They have always been accurate and deadly on Texas Deer.

I did not load any cuz the shell holders haven't come in yet. I "made do" with the wrong size ones to straighten the necks. I loaded the primer tubes then realized I needed the case holders for the RCBS Bench Priming Tool...DUH....

If it's custom shop, I doubt you will need to monkey with the bedding or the trigger. Certainly not a new barrel. roflmao
