I honestly hate pain, I got some swats at home, but I'm young enough that we got out choice of swats or ISS (In school Suspension). I always took ISS. Didn't much bother me being by myself for 3 days, did a lot of reading to pass the time.

3rd grade- forgetting to get folder signed by parents
7th grade- for flicking paint in art class
7th grade- forgetting to lock gym locker
7th grade- Band teacher for sneaking into band hall and playing with a French horn
8th grade fighting

Was good after that.

I havent thought of that word in that context for many, many years. Our football coaches would light our butts up if we were late for dressing out. It hurt like the dickens, I think the sick SOB's enjoyed it. Aside from that I dont recall ever getting smacked at school.

But grandma...... oh my, she could wield a switch like Zorro. I distinctly remember running around in circle like we were dosey doeing in a square dance, with her holding onto my arm tearing it up or tearing up one of my cousins. Trying to cover the hiney didn't do any good, you'd just get the mark of Zorro on your bare arm. She dipped and snorted powdered snuff, smoked cigars, and would wash dishes in water so hot I'd get scalded putting my hands in it. She didnt take any crap and she loved tearing up our little hineys, I think it was the highlight of her day.

I had my share for sure. But I had a metal shop teacher in high school that gave licks if you were late for class. Only took me one time to learn to show up to his class on time. He was preparing us for the real world and teaching us a lesson about showing up on time to work.

Grade school, all the time. Junior High only once. High school not a single time, I got way better at watching where I was and who was watching.

Once in middle school by an assistant principal for holding a girl's hand in the hallway. I'm a lover, not a fighter. Lisa. She went with a whole lotta guys. I think I was her trial of a nice boy. Whatever she caught in high school, I hope it's cleared up by now and she is enjoying her life. Odd how much I wonder and worry what happened to her. 'Couldn't have had a good home life.

Last whuppin' I got was at 15, from Dad. In my skivies, I popped off to Mom and walked into my room. WHAM! 'Still don't know how that old man crept up so quiet. Hurt for a couple of weeks and I totally deserved it.

In HS I skipped out for lunch with the girlfriend that became wife#1. The whole football team was at the McDonald's. Pulling back into the parking lot was a real phallus of an assistant principal writing detention slips. He was yucking it up with the football team standing there. (5A state champions.) I like football; hate the double standard. The guys I knew on the team pretty much peaked at 18.

11th grade, Me and my buddy drug the pole vaulting mats over to the bleachers and we were doing flips from the top row unto the mats, man that was fun, but the gym teacher didn't think so. We got lined up in front of the entire gym class right in the middle of the basketball court and got swats for it. The class loved it. Word made it around the school fast. The next period friends were asking me about it.
12th grade, after three tardies to one class you would swats. Of course, the first class after lunch I hit the three tardies mark a few times.

In the fourth grade the class bully finally met his match. He pushed the limit one day and was taken into the next room to get his licks. He was screaming NO and crying like a baby and was running from the teacher, she went and got help from another teacher. They had to hold him down. He was a real screamer; he was bawling for quite a while.
My dad had taught me to catch my ankles and take my punishment without a word or hesitation. Clearly that kids dad never taught him an sort of discipline.

I was a good kid. I never got licks. I mouthed off to my eighth grade coach when I was exiting the shower one day. He was swinging his paddle, coach Smith, took a double hand swing and hit me accross the back.
I had a seventh graDe coach that was a little man body builder named Marco. He treated me like a dog but I wouldn’t let my old man whip his arse. He came up to me when I was a senior starting both ways for Permian and acted like we were buds. I told him if I ever saw him in a bar I’d whip his arse. I’ve never seen him again but I still would.

There were two gangs of Mexicans when I was in JR high. Mexicans grow faster than whites and they were pretty tough until 10’th grade. I quit growing in 8th grade. 6’3” 145lbs. I handled that chit all the time. Luckily as a white kid, my principal, Mr. Herron, mule deer hunted with us and took me out of school on Fridays early to hunt. I drank my first cold beer with that old man after dragging a Mulie buck out of a canyon with him. That’s all he had to drink.
Every fight we got into in JR high, he’d say what happened Elder? I’d say these Mexicans jumped us. He’d say go back to class, and they would get suspended. He was a hell of an old man.
Growing up in 80’s ODESSA was a hoot!

Just a couple of times in Jr. High. The last one was an eye opener, 8th grade. Our art teacher was mid 20’s and not a big woman at all. My girlfriend and I got messing around a little by her, and she offers us three licks each or take our chances with the principal. As soon as she swatted my GF, it was clear I had made a mistake, that woman wore our butts out like no other.

Never got any in school, but sure got a lot a home. My dad was a major disciplinarian.

Jeez, I remember one year I got 35, it was before high school so probably 7 or 8 grade. I got them starting in 3rd grade until I graduated. Most of it was for stupid stuff. One year I had 3 days D-hall my senior year. It was for skipping class. Anyway, I was put in a closet that was next to the public announcement room. I had some fun with that. I have been the only person to get licks while assigned to D-hall. Dad could use a belt when he had too. I still cringe when I hear a belt clearing belt loops.

Yes, got my share from parents, teachers, principals, etc.
Only one I didn't deserve, I was at my locker when a fight broke out nearby - guilty by association since all of them were my friends so it was a good time.
When you associate painful consequences with doing stupid stuff, a light flickers to life and hopefully you learn not to do that - or not...

When parents send kids to quiet time for punishment it gives them plenty of time to think about revenge and fosters hate.
Since they live in a video game world, they don't see any consequences past hitting replay and starting over with a new life.

This thread reminds me of how much I don't miss my childhood.
