Someone once told me that when using mechanical broadheads know what can go wrong will go wrong so I have tried to stay away from them but I have been reading all these articles about the rage 2 blade and I know I have to try either the rage or something else yall recommend but my main question is what are the pros and cons of mechanical broadheads verses fixed blade broadheads?

As far as the rage, i've never heard of anyone really having any problems, Always good blood trails,My buddy and brother in law use grim reapers, and the same thing good blood trails. The only thing is they may not deploy.Fixed blades are always gonna cut, i use muzzy 100 three blades.Never had an issue with these either..

I had a rage 3 blade deploy while the bow was sitting in it's holder on my tripod last year. It cost me a shot on one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen. I will NEVER use a rage again...
I have been, and will be in the future, using G5 Stryker fixed blade broadheads...

MAIN PROBLEMS; rage either doesnt deploy on impact, deploys one blade but not the other/s.
Blades are so loose in rubber hold that they are expanded before shooting which can result in INJURY or jsut a blown oppurtunity (you might think an experience hunter wouldnt let this happen, BUT it can be as simple as just tappin your cam on the tree and knockin the blade loose.)
NO RAGE!

wow from past discussions i thought yall would be in love with the rage but i know what you mean that when they mess up its not really worth what goes wrong but would anyone be able to tell me the pros and cons of mechanical broadheads such as they fly faster or more quietly then fixed blade? and what fixed blade do yall like best?

I like the G5 Strykers... Great cutting power, but still compact... They shoot and fly just the same as my field points.

You just have to be a little more carful not to deploy the blades by hitting them on something, but I killed a few deer with he Rage 3 blades last year. They worked perfect!! I hate having to replace the blades, those screws are way too small and very easy to strip out. I stripped two out and sent them in to Rage and they sent me a brand new package of 3 and a pratice blade for free. I might go back to my g5 Montecs, but If I did'nt already have like seven Montecs it would be the HellRazors. They come Razor sharp out of the package, my Montecs seem dull and hard to put a edge on them!!! Going to try them out on my crossbow this year!!!

Mechanical Pros Will fly right with your practice tips! Very accurate and quite. Big cut blade which makes for a good blood trail. Cons Open when you don't want them too. (Go get new more beast o-rings if this is your problem) More likely not to get a pass-thru than a fixed if you hit bone. Fixed Blade Pros Always ready to shoot. Breaks ribs without deflection. Pass-thrus everytime you hit behind the shoulder. Cons Smaller holes (possibly could argue less blood to trail) May not fly right with practice tips Not as cool looking

I love/hate the rage broadheads - I have taken quite a few animals with the rage from elk, deer, pigs, goats etc. I have never had a problem with blades deploying on impact, the entrance and exits are amazing - I have never had an animal - including the elk cow I shot go more than 35 yards - the blood trail looks like someone walked around pouring out gallon buckets of red paint, they can take a ok shot and make it work - I credit the cutting diameter for this. They fly like field tips out past 70 yards.
My big hangup on the rage is this - you can not shoot through mesh windows on a ground blind and not have the blades deploy. I shot a buck last december out of my double bull at 22 yards - I knew as soon as I shot that the blade opened - I could hear it. The shot hit forward of center on the right shoulder - the blood trail was pretty good and my buck ran about 25 yards before doing the dizzy dance and tumbling down into a 200ft canyon. It was still effective but I know where I aimed and my release was perfect - the blade deploying on the mesh window caused it to go off course and had that buck been 3 or 4 yards further away I would have missed him completly - I hunt out of ground blinds probably 90 percent of the time - so the rage won't work for me so I have swtiched back to the shuttle t lock - I love these heads - IMO the best fixed blade on the market.

Why chance a shot? I tried the rage and found myself constantly checking to make sure they were still ready shoot. With a fixed blade like the quality G5 Strykers I use, I do not have to worry about it.

x2. I switched from Jak-hammer SST's to Montecs this year. Couldn't be happier with them. They fly exactly like Jak-Hammers, which fly exactly like my field tips. I didn't have to change a thing with them, so I can switch back and forth depending on the situation.

rage and spitfire are the best mec broadheads. i have had no problem whit them and i have shot deer in texas wisconsin kansas and colorado. every time the have worked great. not to mention around 50 hogs. and to this day i have retrieved every animal. plus they shoo true like a field point. people that say that they open befor they shoot, have either shot that one befor or are not real sure what they are dooing.
and fixed are also good if you want to spen alot of time sighting them in and tuning them.
but most of ALL AND MOST IMPORTANT shoot what you like and are most comfortable with
