Bout to give up on finding a rifle, so, turning my focus towards a pellet grill The cheap azz in me makes me look at a Pit Boss The normal Buzz is looking at Rec Tec , Traeger, allot of dough for a smoker. I would get a small one but want WI-FI so I can monitor temp from anywhere. I don't smoke meat as much as grill and I have a fine 22" Kettle for this. I "can" smoke on it. how is GRILLING a steak on a pellet Grill ???

Memphis is best for steaks.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have a Traeger. I have ribeyes cut 1 3/4” thick , season only with coarse ground pepper. I put on grill at 180 degrees for one hour, take off and rest 15 minutes and turn grill on high . After 15 minutes and grill reaching 400+ degrees. Put steak on 1-1 1/2 minutes per side. Comes out pink from edge to edge. Perfect.

I have the RT-700 Bull with the grill grates and so far, I haven't cracked the nut on grilling yet. The jury is still out. As for smoking, I am absolutely impressed. And I come from a traditional stick burning smoker background. I've also used and still have a Masterbuilt Electric, but I'll never buy another type of smoker. Pellet For Lyfe! As for steaks, I'll smoke them on the lowest setting (about 180) for about 90 minutes and then finish on the gasser.

If you want just for steaks get a sous vide and a good cast iron pan

It may sound poor to you, only because you have not had it done correctly.

Steak on a pellet grill sounds poor I'm a stick burner. No smoke oven here. That said, the Memphis Grill gets to 650° and makes a great crust on a steak.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have a traeger and love it. I bought the wifi version, which was a waste of money. I do not use that function. One suggestion if you like smoke flavor, buy a smoke tube. It was a game changer for me.

A gift certificate to 407 BBQ would be a better option.

Green Mountain Grills should also be on your "to look at" list.

Camp Chef Woodwind with attached sear station. Nothing you can't do on it at a reasonable cost. The sear station is vital, IMO.

I have the Pit Bass Gold from Wally World and love it. My intent was to buy cheap, see if I like it then go RekTek. Nope, the Boss cooks like a champ. Just remember general maintenance and she'll work just fine.

Good bit of experience with Green Mountain pellet grills. At home and friends have and all love. One at lease in our community area so everyone uses it from time to time. Lots that use it out there have other stuff at home but they all really like the Green Mountain. Im not saying it tastes the absolute best but the convenience is really really convenient.

Pick one you like. All the internal parts and electronics are the same or damn near and all come from china. I got a small pit boss and no complaints. Tractor supply has a heavy duty looking one that looks like a steel bbq pit. Its 499

I can come near buying the rifle than the grill. Then you have to buy briskets at nearly $4 a pound. RIFLE!

Just remember general maintenance and she'll work just fine. Same, I didn’t know how much I’d even like the pellet grill so I went cheap to start off with. The Pitt Boss exclusive one from Lowe’s. It has cooked a lot of meat of all different sorts. Smoking low and slow to high heat reverse searing. It works great.
