Would you consider this FMJ? Better yet, would a gun range consider it FMJ? "This ammo has a steel case with a brass hollow point jacket bullet."

I recall one range doing the "magnet test"... if it's magnetic it's "FMJ".

I consider a Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) a jacketed projectile with no exposed lead at the tip.

If it attracts a magnet and has no exposed lead at the tip, it is a steel cored or steel jacketed FMJ.

Most indoor ranges do not allow steel cored or steel jacketed ammunition due to backstop damage, and some outdoor ranges do not allow FMJ period due to richochet hazard.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

A hollow point with a steel case instead of brass is not FMJ. FMJ has to do with projectile.

There's your answer. Do you have a photo of said bullet?

^^ This. A FMJ bullet is a bullet where the entire front of the bullet down to the base has a copper jacket (usually the base of the bullet has exposed lead). If the bullet has a hollow point, it is not a FMJ. The range should not care if the case is steel or brass, just the bullet fired.

Did you ever consider that people looked at it and saw that it was already answered?

No, I was looking online. That was the description. I wouldn't think it would be considered FMJ because it's a hollow point but Alpine turned me away before even when the bullet didn't pull a magnet.

That's what kept me from replying. Some smart people already covered everything.

(But this is a response grin )
