I think I already know how this thread is going to go, but I thought I would give it a shot since most of you guys know volumes more about guns/rifles than I do. I looking for a new Full time all weather deer hunting rifle to replace my marlin 30/30 & Mossberg 30-06.
Here is what I am looking for in the new gun: synthetic stock: black, green, or camo. Matte finish: no shiny pretty stuff Mauser style action Detachable mag or drop down floor plate Prefer it to be either 30-06 or .270 Something with an easily adjustable trigger like the accutrigger would be nice (not sure if any mauser based action can have this feature) something unique with some character $800.00 max
I have looked at several guns, but am limited to what gander mnt. carries. Any one have a suggestion? Maybe you know of some make or model that I haven't seen yet.

Contact CDNN in Abilene. They have a Steyr in '06 I believe, and if you can go .308, They have some FN (basically Win. 70's) that pretty well fit your desires.

I have a 798 with a Mauser action in 30-06. It shoots really good and I got it for $500 new. Has everything you want but the matte finish, and synthetic stock. It has a laminate stock. But come on for the price I think you could sacrifice and get a shiny barrelled gun with a nice wood stock and still have plenty left over for a nice scope.

Savage model 16 (weather warrior) if you can live with the push feed bolt is the best all-weather hunting rifle for the money imo.
I've had no problem, ever, with either of my push feed bolt rifles (one a Winchester, the other a Savage).
She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.

I assume you mean $800 fo rthe rifle itself only. IF I had that sort of budget, Browing A Bolt all the way. I like how the clip works. Borrowed a 7 mag once and absolutely loved it. Browning just makes quality stuff.
I think the T-3 is the better value though at up to a couple hundred bucks cheaper and best choice in its price range.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I hear that Daisy is making some very cool stuff, I would go for the new "Red Rider Model" has all you want in a gun and even a compass in the stock. I think this is about all the gun you need.

You just described the Ruger "Hawkeye" 77 ss Ruger Haweye ss - Stainless steel mauser type controled feed with non-reflective stailess steel, you can get it with the standard black stock or a Hogue Green stock, It has a drop floor magazine and they have the new LC6 trigger system that stands for "light and crisp" I have a ruger 270 and I think its the best deer rifle I have and I got a hawkeye stainless in 22-250 GREAT RIFLE!!!! It has The action you want Its in the price range has the finish you want stock you want calibers 222-375h&h (the hogue stock model is .270&30-06) and when you get the one with the facotry hogue stock its really sharp looking to http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=133232176this is the one with the dark finish

I have the same exact gun in .243. I love it. Killed a hog with it the day after I bought it.

I'm a Savage Weather Warrior fan myself, but deewayne nailed it when he flagged the Ruger "Hawkeye" 77 ss.

I'll throw in another vote for a Tikka T3 Lite. Great quality and very accurate right out of the box.

Take a look at the Weatherby Vanguard. Sounds like all you are looking for to me and in the $400 range. Adjustable trigger and all...

Remington 700 LTR, which comes in 308 or 300 SAUM. Just have a smith adjust the trigger for you.

CZ or Tikka. Don't want to hurt any feelings, but IMO Ruger is not what they used to be (but then again, I'm not either).
God is so good to me.
