Ok this Company I have been interviewing for told me today (3rd interview) that they have "unlimited Vacation"
I have never heard of such a thing.....what is the THF's take on this? Anyone else's company offer such a thing?
Plus, no more suits, or ties! Business casual is the required attire!

Unlimited for us is called “ permissive time off” . We don’t accrue vacation anymore and can take however much you and your boss agree on. I’m 100% sure I get less , not more

My wifes firm has unlimited vacation and no one is dumb enough to take off a full month, or she hasn't been directly involved with someone that does. If I'm not mistaken there is a certain amount you are allowed to take without having to get additional approval.

Are we talking about paid vacation? That seems odd, to me.
I can take off as much as I want. I just don’t get paid for it.

We dont get unlimited, but it seems i accrue it faster than i can use it. I believe i have around 525 hrs of vacation, sick and comp time combined right now.

I get unlimited vacation. But I don't actually have a job anymore. But with my former job I got to travel the entire world on their nickel and get paid good money for it. Life is good.

I've worked in the tech/software space for the last 10-12 years with the majority of companies being HQ'd out of the Bay Area. This is table stakes in terms of benefits for companies in this industry, including my last 3 employers. Not sure what industry you are in, but it is not that common outside of tech as far as im aware.
It's absolutely unlimited, but not without it's unwritten rules. Meaning, most folks take your typical amount of vacation eventhough it's unlimited. However, there are some that take a ton and all boils down to performance. From my understanding there are also some benefits to the company when it comes to taxes/balance sheets when carrying over accrued PTO year to year (or so ive been told). One negative to the employee, is no payout on accrued unused PTO if you are laid off.

Yep this is a way of not letting you accrue vacation hours that they have to put on the books, and no payout if you leave.
If you like the job, just factor that in as one of the variables you are weighing, but I'd count it as a negative not a positive.
Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall

I would think it’s unlimited as long as you reach the goals they set. If you can land a big enough deal in a month, sure, they will pay you for the other 11 months off.

A lot of big law firms went to this a few years back. For most, it means they are too afraid to take vacation and then they firm doesn't have to pay them out for it at the end of the year, which was the previous policy. Most employees preferred the old method.
That being said, my last job offered true unlimited as long as it my job done that result was I always took my laptop on vacation.

I used to know an old guy that sold cadillacs. He was apparently so good at it that they wouldn’t let him retire. The guy cut a deal where he agreed to sell a certain number of Caddys per year. When he sold that number, he quit working till next year. He said he usually hit the number in June or July. Such a deal. Not quite unlimited, but close.
On the other hand, in corporate America, where I lived, I didn’t want to be away from my desk and job long enough for the company to get any idea they could do without me. The ugly truth is that a major corporation can do without just about anybody. One Friday I was visiting with Ron, an Accounting Manager, about something we needed to talk about, and we decided to do it on Monday. I walked down to his office early Monday morning and was told that he had died over the weekend. By 10 am, somebody else was at Ron’s desk. It was like he had never even been there.
Your desk, your job, your life, and the land you live on are not yours forever. You need vacation, but don’t be gone from sight and your desk too long.

I would much rather have the deal I have now. I accrue four weeks a year and I can roll it over from year to year and have up to eight weeks at a time on the books. If I had unlimited off the books I wouldn't take off any more than I do now and I wouldn't get paid for up to four weeks when I retire.

It’s called, “we don’t care as long as you get your [censored] done and answer the phone wherever you are.”
A friend of mine works for a company that has unlimited PTO. No, that doesn’t mean you can take off a month straight. It means her company trusts her to get her work done. There is good and bad with it. It means you’re never truly off work (not that sales guys are; 99% of the time we’re answering phones or emails anyway on vacation).
It offers some flexibility and it’s usually part of a company culture that lets employees do what they’re hired to do with less micromanaging and strict corporate bureaucracy.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

My company switched to Unlimted Vacation. Essentially it's a way to screw the workers out of the ability to accrue vacation time, especially for tenured employees. I had reached a point that I got 5 weeks a year. Never used more than 3 and banked 2. Had months in the bank in case I ever got sick or laid off. Now my "banked" vacation is gone and if I get laid off or quit, they don't owe me jack. It is defiantly not a better vacation plan, because managers are coach on how to negotiate as little of the "unlimited vacation" as they can hand out. Tell the new boss you want to take a month off in the summer and you won't have a job to come back too.....

Seems vacation time on the books is not a benefit to the organization.

My wife’s company is global, the Europeans have it made. They work 4 day work weeks, about 15 holidays a year, 3 months PTO, 6 months paid for FMLA related to child birth.
It’s nothing close to that for the US based employees
