If you are out of regular small pistol primers, can you use small pistol magnum primers? This is for loads using HP38 or 231 in 38 spcl and 357 LSWC loads. I know its best to use magnums when using H110, 296 and 2400.

Yes, done it several times. If you are near max with your loads you might back them off 3 tenths or so. That seems to be the general rule of thumb

Yes, they will work, just reduce powder charge slightly, like stated. The only issue I've seen is some 357 Mag/38 Special firearms will not ignite the magnum primers. I switched to CCI magnum primers in my Dad's 357 revolver, and we had multiple no fires with that primer. I switched back to Winchester standard primers, and problem solved.
