Went to autozone to get 2 QTS of 40w oil. It doesn't exist anymore, nor does 30w. Nothing thicker than 10w30. 0w10? Seriously? Had to buy 10w40 motorcycle oil. Premium price. What gives?

Can't help. Get mine changed once a year when I get my inspection.

Its not just me but also a couple more THFers posted of the zero turn thread that they had never changed oil in their riding mowers. Look it up.

You can get Valvoline VR1 40w Racing oil by the case on Amazon. I use the 30w in my 44 year old garden tractor. It's really no higher than the conventional oil. The only thing is you have to buy 6 quarts, but they deliver it to your house.

Autozone suks, Do you have a local parts house or NAPA ?

Wait, aren’t you supposed to use non-detergent oil in small engines?

Whatever my current truck calls for is what my push and riding mower, generator, pressure washer, etc get. Right now it’s delo 5w40 synthetic diesel oil. They run fine and don’t complain have done just fine on everything from 5w20 to 15/40 and straight 30 weight.

To me they still have a place. But I'm realizing the market is small.

The Kawasaki on my Hustler says to use straight 30W. I've been buying Castrol 30W at walmart.

Negative. We run plenty of Straight Viscosity Oils in our equipment, and it is still specified by the manufacturer. There is also a ton of old Detroit Engines still running that need straight vis oil. Some applications will need this oil for many more years.

The thing is, motors with oil filters, use a detergent oil, it holds the metals in suspension so the filter will catch it.
Non detergent in splash lube/no filter.

Positive. I didn’t say there was no use for them but by this post I’d say it’s evident their demand and thus supply is lagging.

Tractor Supply should have what you are looking for. Might be in gallon jugs.

There is no supply issue, maybe a certain store or stores not stocking it. I can have thousands of gallons of it delivered by tomorrow morning if I called my vendor today.
