Anyone have a recommendation on a tow-behind rough cut mower? I keep coming across Swisher & DR brands. I’m curious if any have used these, or have any other ideas.

I don’t know your situation as to how tough the mowing is going to be, but I had to go with a tractor and shredder. A tow behind would never have been able to do what I needed.

Anyone have a recommendation on a tow-behind rough cut mower? I keep coming across Swisher & DR brands. I’m curious if any have used these, or have any other ideas. I've heard pretty decent things about some of the Swishers, I would suggest shopping carefully and checking reivews. I was dumb, I could have had a clean used one 8-10 years ago for cheap and they've since tripled in price for a new one. I've seen aged used ones selling for what new cost back then. I don’t know your situation as to how tough the mowing is going to be, but I had to go with a tractor and shredder. A tow behind would never have been able to do what I needed. This is pretty sage advice. A 12-15hp briggs behind a light blade isn't going to do what a 40-50-60hp tractor and heavy shredder can. Also, depending on how much you need done, you might be able to hire local and not mess with any of it.

Good advice....I’ve got a buddy with a Kubota that’ll definitely do the job, but transporting it is the rub. This is mostly light work that could probably be done with a riding mower, just too much area to cover. In certain areas, pines less than 2” thick, but almost everything is just tall grass.

There's a Swisher pull behind in the classifieds now.

I have a Swisher pull behind. Swisher calls them Trail Cutters, but they are commonly referred to as " Brush Hogs". I like mine. It has a 44" cut and I pull it behind my ATV. I used it to mow the roads and senderos on our lease in Freer for several years. As long as the surface you are cutting is flat and grass or small brush only, you will be fine. I would not recommend using one in the Hill Country due to the uneven ground and too many rocks.

Good to hear they can take a beating. I don’t expect to blaze a trail through major brush....I’ll use within its limits, mainly overgrown old trails and grassy areas.
