As expected, sales tax, the state’s revenue workhorse, got clobbered.
Hegar said the worst loss of sales-tax revenue came in the oil and gas sector, and the separate state taxes on production of oil and natural gas saw revenue declines, respectively, of 75% and 76%.
Motor vehicle sales and rental taxes, which together with general sales tax generate nearly two-thirds of all state tax collections, yielded $265 million last month, a decline of 38% from May 2019. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/pol...age-in-a-decade-signaling-budget-crisis/Oil is at 36.36 but we still have a ways to go.Natural gas is so low we're flaring it instead of selling it. The meter fee is more than the return.

But someone saved 10 bucks at the fuel pump, so it’s okay.

State and cities will find new ways to screw us on fees and taxes, even though they are solely responsible for shooting themselves in the foot.

Millions laid off all across the states and country, how many of those were city, state and federal employee's?

"God forbid they take a pay cut and actually figure out how many of them are nonessential." It's not God who will forbid they do these two things - it comes to them naturally not to figure these things out.

I was listening to the news in passing a few weeks ago and when this topic came up once someone decided to sit down to math some numbers. It came out from the city they can only furlough city/county employees for 10 days total. I just quit listening right then and there, it just makes me mad how impossible it is to be let go from a government job. But sure they can treat cops/fireman as their pawn when it comes to budgets. Oh no we can't eliminate that position of someone who we really aren't sure of what they do but were promised a job if their buddy was elected.

So they were planning on raising property taxes just based on Corona. This destruction can't help and we've probably got a bit more to go.

I wonder how bad their "plan" to tackle the budget crisis will be? Property owners in line of fire? I have a feeling they will be reaching deep into our pockets to pay for all this

I have a feeling they will be reaching deep into our pockets to pay for all this Gov Abbott signed a law that "requires many cities, counties and other taxing units to hold an election if they wish to raise 3.5% more property tax revenue than the previous year. " https://www.texastribune.org/2019/06/12/abbott-signs-property-tax-bill-sb2/HOWEVER, Gov. Abbott issued an emergency disaster declaration so not sure how this will impact this.

Think they can get by this by increasing the value of property, hence, mo moola.

Cut two thirds of the Texas workforce, most of them are always non essential, i.e. TXdot, etc.

Cut two thirds of the Texas workforce, most of them are always non essential, i.e. TXdot, etc. There's allot to be said there. You're county operations do their jobs well but it starts getting crowded at the district level and above, with more and more redundancy and bureaucracy. I was pretty involved with that group for about 18 years.

Think they can get by this by increasing the value of property, hence, mo moola. The can get around it by increasing the value of the land and property. Also the law allows for a 8% increase without a vote if there was as a disaster, Dallas has already started looking in to using it.
