All I’m seeing includes breaker spaces. Why? Foreign to me. Main breaker in meter box now? What has changed?

Haven't looked at mine in years.

It’s new construction meter boxes I need. Just a plain one one no breaker spaces.

Interesting. So is there an exposed breaker switch, or covered breaker switch? The only thing I can think of is it would save firefighters a little time and be safer than pulling a meter. All the contacts would stay covered vs. two hot legs exposed with water flowing on a fire. Am I wrong or right that firefighters may pull a meter if they see the need? I thought I heard that once.

Ours does not have one, the electric company supplied it, we have Wise Coop.

If I am correct, NEC now requires a disconnect within 6 feet after meter.

Do you have a picture of the “meter box“ that you are referring to?

Yes, that’s the one I’m familiar with. The meter and the service will be mounted back to back with the outside garage wall between them. Don’t need a local disconnect at the meter.

I’m seeing three types that look right to me. Ring type, ringless no bypass, and ringless horn bypass. What is that all about?

You’ll have to contact your service provider and see which one they require.

The only power company that I have dealt with that requires a horn bypass in CPS hear in San Antonio.
Lever bypass is required by many like Oncor and AEP.

That’s what I told him to do. We have Coserv out here.

I walked into Fannin County Electric Co-Op, two weeks ago, and said I needed a meter base for overhead power. The guy brought one to my truck. We installed a main disconnect under it. Maybe it is that easy being a Co-Op, not sure what Co-Serve would do.

Tractor supply used to sell the poles already made up with meter base and service box.
