Looking at doing a 3 day trip end of July.
Which island has best food, fishing (flats inshore) snorkeling?

Only been once, by far the best food will be Key West. Hell from what I saw you can just drop a hook in the water and catch something. I've never seen so many fish. We didnt snorkel.

I do. I have been there over 13 times as well as spent 3 months in Miami. Mallory Square at sunset, have a cuban steak sandwich with a mojito near Mallory square, El Meson de Pepe. El Meson de Pepe: https://www.elmesondepepe.com/Hemmingway house tour. Atocha museum. Higgs beach, you can snorkel right off beach there to a bridge, tons of sea life to see. Eat at Salute!, it is facing Higgs beach. Beautiful outdoor dining. Stock Isand, key before key west, where the locals eat, called the Rusty Anchor an]so eat at Hog Fish bar and grill, stock island as well. Hotel stay at the Casa Marina, trust me on this...two Georgous swimming pools and you can snorkel there on the beach, swim out to the diving platform. Also you can get a true massage on the white sands on the hotel, property. Green Parrot for drinks, under termite treatment last I heard=, but still a staple. I would also recommend flying into Miami airport, rent a convertible and drive to through the Keys, 7mmile bridge is beautiful and amazing it is a must do. Just try not to do the drive on a Saturday or Sunday,..traffic gets bad. Also DO NoT speed in deer key, endangered deer there. I have actually seen a few on a couple of my trips there. Rent a scooter when you get there, you will love just riding around the island. You can ride it to Stock Island as well. This is a start, I have a ton more info. It is touristy, but slow down it is,paradise in the USA. No,passport needed.

There are three types of fishing in the Keys, flats, reef, and offshore. Offshore will be mostly dolphin (mahi mahi) that can be anywhere from just outside of the reef to 10 miles out. Reef is 3 miles out and the best fishing for that time of the year, flats will be permit and bonefish, maybe tarpon. Here's a link to the calendar http://fishfloridakeys.com/chart.html

If you want to spend big money, have fun on key west, otherwise visit the smaller locations. Never been but my parents have, said they spent almost as much for a 3 day at key west as they did for a 5 night on some other island down there. I’ll have to ask the old man.

Can't stand key west, I'm more of a Key largo/Pennekamp type person. Been there a bunch. Not a lot of good food in the lower key's though, unless you make it yourself, maybe the marina restaurant is ok.
The food could have gotten better though over the years.

If you go to Key West, stop in at The Lobster Shack for a great sandwich... and a fun guy to talk with. Just a block or so from the southern most point. http://www.lobstershackkw.com/For a luxury stay, away from the noise, we really enjoyed the H2O Suites, great location for us. https://www.h2osuites.com/

Ben several times but get trolled when I post photos. It’s amazing you don’t get it I’ll try to hit you in the head with a skillet....you don’t get trolled you get called out. They (myself included) get tired of seeing the same 5 pictures from 1965 and look for and crave new material. You’re right and thank you for not posting the snorkeling picture, picture of your daughter on a wind board, etc...we’ve all seen them 1,000 times.

We lived in Islamorada for 5 years, so I am partial to that area. You can fish off shore, inshore the possibilities are endless. Mahi, black fin tuna are mainstays offshore that time of year. Key West is fine for a night or two, but mostly just a bunch of drunk tourists doing the Duval crawl. If you have time, the trip to the dry tortugas is a once in a lifetime experience, there is a ferry that runs daily from Key West. The best beach is at Bahia Honda state park, close to Marathon.

Don’t take your kids to Duval st. All I saw were porn shops and ghey bars. We stayed in Islamorada, did a day trip to Key West. Enjoyed the Islamorada area.

One thing you'll need to avoid is the lobster mini season, July 29th and 30th, it's pure insanity.
