Good question.. A friend who owns a 400 ac place is thinking about it. my question to him was, would a rancher put cattle on his place without a fence to keep them on his place?

Don't know the law to comment one way or another, but if I was going to do it, it would be to have them build up a free range population. Since they would be legal to shoot by anybody, any time of the year, if they left that property, I would want some way to encourage them to stick around. I've learned with domestic stock that the best way to do this is to get them very young, and feed them something that they really like, every day at the same time. Then they always come back to the barn to feed, and stick around during they day.

Ask your local game wardens.

People put blackbuck on low fence places all the time. I really can’t imagine there is any rule against it. I know your neighbors will sure love you when they start leaving the ranch.

'Got a neighbor planning to buy some blackbuck. I think he's gonna want me to help pay for some fence, seeing as there isn't any in a short stretch and some other fencing is pitiful. But...he's way too much of a big-shot to actually be able to keep track of where he put my phone number. (His wife stopped me the other day and asked for it again.) I love toying with these types. This ain't my first passive-aggressive rodeo! But I digress.

So I got him 15 BB. Turned them loose. I saw him a week or so later and he said he had not seen the BB. I took him around his fence and showed him all the holes they probably went through. Didn't seem to bother him much as he ask me to get him some more.

And as for Axis. They ain't like cows were you can feed them up to the barn unless you have a HF. LF Axis have a very large territory they travel. If you see one you like you best take it as you may never see it again.

We have five blackbuck does get into the field (about 130 acres) with some cows. We are not certain how they got there but they have been there almost a year and cannot find their way back out. Maybe they just want to stay.

We had three blackbuck on our lease which escaped from a nearby HF. The lasted the '17 & '18 seasons and then last season we had an explosion of broomweed - 99% sure the yotes got them because they have not been seen since.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.
