You guys are probably sick of hearing about me and my evil Echo pole saw. But, by golly, I think I finally fixed it, and I’ll share what the fix was in case you have Echo issues.

The first, and biggest, problem: it would not run at all. The fix was a new carb, plug, fuel lines, and air and fuel filter.

I then pronounced it fixed, but when I took it out for some serious use it ran absolutely great for quite a while and then just sputtered and died. Let it sit for a while and it would run for a bit and die again. Well...that didn’t irritate me....much. So back to the internet for research, which suggested that a bad fuel vent valve could possibly be the problem. It’s a little white plastic thingie on the fuel tank vent line. It’s a check valve. The one on the saw was brand new, but I had an extra one. If that was the problem, it would starve the fuel off and cause the problem I was having. So I stuck the new one on the saw and we were off and running. Ran it an hour or so yesterday with no issues.

So put this in your memory bank.

I hear ya on the electric chainsaw, but my wife (chainsaw girl) ran out of battery power pretty early on in yesterday’s chainsaw fest.

Does DeWalt even make a battery powered pole saw?

My Echo electric crapped out this morning on the one battery I had with me. It’s gas polesaw counterpart saved the day.
