I was hopeful Texas Parks and Wildlife would start allowing camping in State Parks this week, but they still are not taking new reservations. I would love to park the camper next to a river some place and fish, let the kids play in the water, and just get out of the house. Any recommendations for private RV parks that are open? I am having a hard time finding something that looks good.
Will be coming from the Lubbock area. Prefer within 4-5 hours but will consider anything.

I'd look at beavers bend, or go to red river/taos area.
I know they aren't Texas, but they're both great places to visit.

Man we looked high and low for camping spots in Texas and Oklahoma for the last few weeks my father-in-law happened to notice that a city run park was going to open up reservations for this weekend Sunday night at midnight my mother-in-law got up at 11:50 and had a hard time getting onto the site It was so busy but was able to reserve three spots for this weekend. Monday morning at 7:00 when she checked they were all gone.
I do not think you're going to have much luck finding a camping spot anywhere in Texas This weekend much less a river.

Id feel the same way if I lived in Lubbock!
If I was in Lubbock I'd be looking west north west. Northern new Mexico southern Colorado.
Good luck sir.

Huaco Springs. New Braunsfels . Try to get spots one through 4 or 5. They are right next to a small waterfall. https://camphuacosprings.com/

I would look into private owned rv campsites. My nephew stayed at the falls in marlin this weekend on the Brazos river. Only 2 campers there. only problem is it is open to the public all day. At night gates are locked and you have the place to yourself. Some friends stayed at a place called hillbilly haven on the brazos a lot closer to Lubbock. Just google private campsites and you should find something.

How primitive are you willing to camp? Not on a river, but at Abilene at Fort Phantom Lake, there are some prmiitive camp sites, no hook ups. Probably a few rattlesnakes.
At Lake Coleman there is an RV Park, not sure on what they have available, there is also Winters Lake and Hords Creek Lake in that area. The latter is a Corps lake.

If you have kids, we booked at one of those jelly stone resorts for this weekend.. pray for me. The one in Wichita Falls has a pond in the back. And I also remember them having a decent catfish fry on Friday night

On Lake Mexia, near Mexia, there is an RV campground that hardly anyone knows about. The sites are decent, but no full service or pull through. There is a dump station and a bathroom/shower building. The lake boat ramp is very close, but no swimming area. Maybe 6 or 8 of the sites have a small enclosed building that you can use for storage or even sleep in in cold weather.
I think the place is called Bi-Stone or something similar. The wife has the phone number. We’ve stayed there several times. It’s never crowded because very few people even know it’s there. Heck, I launched the boat there for years and didn’t know there was an RV place next door, until one day I noticed a couple of travel trailers.
You can google it up, but you have to know what you are looking for. I’ll have a go, since I’ve found it before, let me know if you want the phone number.
It’s called Lake Mexia Recreation Area now. Long way from Lubbock though.

will toss in checking out Rio Vista on Lake LBJ. We used to take our BP travel trailer there for long weekends many times. They have RV hookups, pool, bbq pits/grills, fishing dock, boat slips, pool side shower/restrooms ... nothing fancy, but very comfy. They also have rooms, condos, houses and mobile homes that can be rented also for larger groups. Rio Vista Kingsland TX

Lot's of RV places open on Lake Buchanan and Inks Lake. There's a pretty good RV park on the Llano River just outside of Kingsland. Good place for kids to play and swim and some decent fishing in the potholes.

I would agree with the snipe, Big Bend. You might check Lincoln National Park in NM too, very nice.

I believe they are currently limited to 25% of capacity in the campgrounds.

Oak Creek RV or Coffee Creek RV are near Weatherford. While not on the Brazos river, they are only 5-10 minutes away.
