Like a migratory bird with a leg band. SHOOT IT.
Though a 'collar' in hog seems like a patently bad idea for about a dozen reasons.

Possibly Judas pigs. That is a very old idea, but then again, so is biological tracking to learn more about behaviors.
Shoot the pig, take the collar, and find out.

Somebody lost their truffle hunting pig?

It's a feral hog. Shoot it. If the collar has contact info, let the appropriate persons know what happened. Make sausage. Post a photo when you shoot it, we're a pretty visually-oriented group.
I have two unwritten rules: 1. 2.

Go ahead and shoot, whomever put it on will want info on where and when it was taken. Collared animals are not off limits .

Wonder if this is going to turn into one of those "I found a safe remodeling this house" threads...

Take him! Keep the collar as a keepsake, and if it has any identification on it, follow up with the person/organization that put it on the hog, and then invite them to a pulled pork dinner!

Maybe he’s just fashion forward. Has to be hard out there differentiating yourself from the other boars. It’s not all about tusks anymore.

It doesn't look like it's overly tight. Wonder how long it's been on him?

Add corn to the feeders. Both feeders have cell cameras so we shall see.

Looks like a nice healthy pig! I would shoot it, but return the collar to the organization doing the study. That equipment is very expensive and most of these scientists operate with shoestring budgets, best to give them the device back and let them use the data it has gathered.

I'm seeing an opportunity here! Just like tagged redfish. Except with Feral hogs. State tags one hog in each county with a tag that you cannot see until killed. Except if you kill a tagged hog you get $1,000 from the state and/or county.
