Anyone heard anything about the new 4K Wraith? I know they were introduced at Shot Show and production hadn't started yet. With the Covid mess who knows when that might happen but I'm not seeing anything anywhere about them except the same couple of Shot Show videos.

If it is better than the current HD 4-32x50, it might just be one heckuva scope. I love the current version Wraith for what it is and within its price range.

Yeah, I've read lots of reviews on the HD 4-32x50 and have considered buying one. However, what I have been able to find out about the new 4K is higher resolution, 3-24x50 which would provide a wider field of view and also the 4K is supposed to record sound now. $300 higher than the current model, I'm wondering if the improvements justify that much extra money.

Just for consideration, and definitely not apples-apples. However, consider the pros-cons to a typical mid-tier video camera. There is no doubt 4k has a much more detailed image. I also think 3-24 is a more useful magnification range. 32x sounds cool on the current Wraith, but you will need one heckuvan illuminator to ever sight a target that needs that magnification. On the other side of the coin, there are some disadvantages to 4k. Firstly, if you are recording in 4k, you are going to need a lot more storage. Secondly, your battery life is going to be greatly diminished based on my experiences with a Hero7 Black vs a Hero4 Silver 4k-vs-1080p. The 4k will likely also run a bit hotter. If you are going to be editing video, you will need a more competent computer to get it done in 4k.
With that said, the Wraith 4k will be an updated, and more future-proof, camera with a more useful zoom range IMO. As I mentioned the Hero cameras above. I kept my Hero4 Silver because I thought it might be handy to have 2 GoPros or even that I might prefer the Hero4 for certain applications. That never proved to be the situation and I eventually gave the Hero4 to my youngest kid.

I love my my Wraith but the biggest downside is the weight, it weighs a ton. I wonder if the new version will weigh less. A minor issue is the field of view is small as I think the low magnification is more like 6x-7x. Sounds like that will be improved.

The Wraith 4K production was officially delayed by Sightmark in April during the height of the shutdown. It is now scheduled to be released later this fall assuming things continue as normal and our world doesn't fall apart with lock downs again. I also wouldn't not be surprised to see a new feature or two added to the Wraith 4K by the time it hits the market, but we'll have to wait and see.

Pig_Popper has had one for a bit (see post above). I have gotten to look through it a few times. Pretty darned amazing. As a thermal guy, I may have to pick one up just to have as an alternative. However, he is the guy to talk to about what is what on the 4k.

I thought long and hard about the 4K and decided the uncertainty of production plus the higher price tag just didn't make sense for me. I bought a 4-32x50 HD model and am blown away by the quality of the night vision image. The day time image is also very clear. The menu and functions are simple and straight forward which is a plus for me because big fingers and a small brain don't go together well. It starts up and is ready to shoot with in just a few seconds. Right now, it is mounted on my S&W M&P 15-22 for close in varmint work. I have had skunks digging holes in the yard and making a mess of things. My dog got sprayed the other night, I have already dispatched that one but I know I have another one lurking around. I plan on mounting it on my 25x45 Sharps and use one weapon profile for a 70 grain SBK and one for the 87 grain Speer Hot-Cor. That set up will allow me to hunt day or night with one rifle. The factory IR seems to be adequate for up to 200 yds but I have some aftermarket illuminators to try if it is not. I haven't got to take it hunting yet but when the weather cools off I am certainly going to give it a try. The only thing I really don't care for so far is the native magnification of 4x which, of course gives a small field of view @ 100 yds but is something I can get used to.

I have been doing this a long long time. The question is not "Is the new one worth the difference" the question should be "Which one will do what I want it to do" There'll always be a next best thing coming along. Check the different features and that's how to decide if the "upgrade" is really an upgrade for your need. Just my $.02

I've got the Wraith 4K Max as well and I've been using it for several weeks and will be doing a full review on The Late Night Vision Show soon. While the image quality is amazing and from what I've seen, it's a really great optic, I don't believe everyone who owns a Wraith HD should automatically upgrade, nor do I believe the 4K Max is the right scope for all users. There are a lot of settings, menu options and tweaking that need to be done to get the best possible image. While the HD model is more of a "turn it on and go", I've found the 4K requires more tinkering and testing and probably isn't the best option for someone who isn't comfortable playing with menu options, IR focus settings, IR placement etc to get their scope working to it's full potential. For someone looking for a super digital daytime image quality, there is no question, the 4K Max is definitely the way to go.

Great videos and information PP. Those videos take a ton of time and I know you put a lot of effort into them. Very good job, thanks for sharing.

Wow, those a pretty amazing for a digital scope. I really like my original Wraith and see no need to upgrade at this time.

As always, thank you for the high-quality content, Benji. Also, holy chit. I could actually see the grasshoppers the coyote was chasing at 700+ yards. That's some next-level chit.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

Here is our full review of the Wraith 4K Max on The Late Night Vision Show. We really love the scope and we tried to go into detail on who the scope is good for and who it might not be good for. Jason
