Just picked up a BCM upper for a steal. Issue is it’s painted with Krylon.
Upper was painted when it was new so I’m told. I plan to take it completely apart to remove the paint.
Anyone have any good tips and or stripper brands to use?
Any info on what not to do would be helpful as well.
Thanks

Berryman's B12 Chemtool. Get it at your local O'Reillys. Get the liquid, not the aerosol. Also comes in a gallon can. You can dunk the whole stripped upper in the gallon can. Takes it down to the bare aluminum.

Think he is only wanting to strip it down to factory finish not bare aluminum.

But just FYI OP I’ve stripped paint off a gun and it’s gone decent but I’ve never gotten it all off. The books and crannies are hard to get. It always seems to have a haze afterward. I painted my SBR and wasn’t happy with it. Tried to strip it off and was never happy with it. Since the SBR lower is mine forever I decided to get it professional to fix my mistake and get it cerakoted.

I have horrible OCD about stuff like that though, if a upper and lower color doesn’t match it drives me nuts.

Brake fluid will take any type of paint off. Just pour some in a bowl and brush it on,let it set for a few hours, and wash it off with a degreaser.

I didn’t mention I have done this once before with the break cleaner like others recommended. I got the same results you had. Specs of paint in the tight areas and a hazy flat finish to it. I just repainted it and it turned out good but not the new look I’m after. I guess Cerakote is in my future. I wonder if I hit it with a pressure washer it would help with the small specs in the tight areas? Don’t think it would hurt.

Probably not what you want to hear but take it to APR and have it cerakoted ?
