Does anyone have a recommendation for a gunsmith who can shorten a barrel on a browning BPS, blue the cut and reinstall the bead? Not looking for tubes, cylinder is fine. I'm in the north DFW area. Thanks!

For that....I’d box up that barrel and send it to Briley.

Years ago I used Briley to cut a barrel to 26” and fit it with Briley screw in chokes. Money well spent.

For that....I’d box up that barrel and send it to Briley. Not sure how their price compares, but any halfway competent gunsmith should be able to chop a shotgun barrel and attach a bead. I’d imagine somebody like Briley charges a premium. Seems like a waste since he doesn’t need a choke thread.

Scheels has a full GS shop. They should be able to accommodate that

Cylinder? As in no choke right. ? If so then consider: The bps will have no real value anymore So jus cut it with a power hacksaw or chop saw Deburr it. Cold blue. Glue a bead on. Cylinder choke , u don’t need a bead lol Like I said the shotgun will have no value regardless Or just get a pawn shop mossberg 500.... I’m really being honest with you, Sir.

I completely agree with all of this. Chopping a decent shotgun into a HD gun just seems wasteful.

I was shopping for a 500 or 870, but I found this BPS cheaper. Figured it would work just fine for what I want, , the barrel is just too long. I looked at replacement barrels, but they cost more than I paid for the gun.

I wonder how a ribbed shotun bbl is different from a rifle bbl, when held in a 4 or ev3 jaw chuck, and of course The truing and debuting of the cut end...
Seeing as how I have a lathe, etc lol I suspect the setup is more difficult that a rifle bbl.

For your purpose I have used a pipe/tubing cutter. They type that you tighten after a few rounds. Just put electrical tape where the wheels are and do not try to tighten the snot out of it and it won’t hurt the finish on the barrel at all. Then debur with a half round file. I did not replace the bead for my purposes. About 20 minutes worth of work if you take your time. Something like this. https://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-2-12...tgDCEAQYAyABEgJfzvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds They can actually be had way cheaper at harbor frieght but the Irwin is decent quality from my experience.

Thanks. Do you think that would work with a rib?

Nope, guess I overlooked the rib. Is it just screwed on where you can remove it, cut it separate, and replace it?

I'll have to check, but I think they solder them in place.
