I have a question. Why are we calling that a pistol?

I have a question. Why are we calling that a pistol? It has a brace rather than a stock. I'm still shocked the ATF Technology Branch hasn't changed their opinion on it.

They have...multiple times...the current iteration of the rule is so pervasive now that I am not sure if they will change it. But if they do it will get really interesting really quickly

Nice. I’ve never owned a .308. I wonder if a 1:10 is fast enough to shoot a heavy subsonic load?

If you have access to a chronograph, I'd love to hear what kind of MV you can get out of it!

I wonder if a 1:10 is fast enough to shoot a heavy subsonic load? 1:10" will stabilize some of the heavy sub loads just fine. The only negative, is in an AR, they won't cycle the action. It's possible with the right set up, but makes for a very dirty round.

A 1:10" will stabilize the 200 grain EXOT (expanding sub bullet) cold tracer bullet I make also.

Pretty slick.
My experience with exactly two semi-auto rifles with the same subsonic load that I no longer have data on. In an M&P 10, the bolt would move, but nowhere near enough strip a round, maybe an inch. In a Kel Tec RFB, it is harder to tell because of the bullpup design and not being able to actually see the bolt. I don't think the bolt moved at all in the Kel Tec. Those .308 bolts have a lot of mass.

Without going into to many details, a standard subsonic load is a light powder charge of a fast burning powder. To get it to cycle, you have to run a really slow burning powder to allow enough pressure at the gas port to cycle. If you are able to get it to cycle, you get about a 70%-75% burn and the rest of the unburned powder gets into the action, magazine, and makes for a very dirty round. And you have to shoot these suppressed, and it builds up in there also. I have some 308 Win loads that will cycle, but the customers I have done these loads for did not like how dirty the load was after about 10-15 rounds. The answer to a cycling sub is the 300 blk out.

The answer to a cycling sub is the 300 blk out. Yep at that point you're shooting the same bullet at 1050 FPS or below so there is no advantage of having a 308 to shoot subs. 300BLK does it in a smaller package reliably every time.

Is that a KVP linear comp? I have multiple 556 pistols and every time I shoot any at the range folks complain about how loud they are - this would be louder

Well after a range day I can say it’s loud and at a 100 yards a standard 150gn FMJ went clean thru the T-post holding the target up and chopped it in half. I didn’t notice the rifle being any more dirty than normal carbon build up after a 100 rounds. Weather permitting I will try to chrono the rifle and see what the round does at 200yds but I can say I am super impressed so far.

It won’t be anymore dirty than a longer barreled AR unless you’re running it suppressed.

I looked into this but was dissuaded by a 9 lb pistol.
