5 months and I'm retired. Moving to my ranch to hunt, fish and trap every day. I am looking forward to unplugging from the city life.

Death...honestly don’t believe I will live long enough to retire....not being morbid or the like....just a gut feeling.

Also a huge factor in my decision to take the vacation/trips we take every year....

I’ll be 55 next month....same age my mother died from pancreatic cancer....sobering!

I believe you're right but I think it is performance based.

I don't even know who La Bares is LOL.

I will be starting my 401K after this virus crap is over with and things return to normal, can't afford to contribute at the moment.

Retire young with pension to live on. Have a 457/401K, HSA and Rollover IRA to sit for another 15+ years to make up for the drop in the spending value of the dollar that will surely happen, small retirement side business that I enjoy and requires only as much time as I want as a way to further contribute to Roth and Trad IRAs, side job for wife that she enjoys, live in town close to extended family and friends, small house paid for, no car payments, no credit card bills, no major debt, no alarms or constant ringing phones, ability to "hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers," at the drop of a hat to any destination (within reason) I want for as long as I want. Been living it now for the last year and a half. Retired at 55. But then I was always known for living like I was retired long before I retired.

The time to start a 401K, IRA etc. is now even if it is a very small amount each payday. When I started investing in 1984 it was a very tiny amount each month, but compounded for 35 years those first deposits into a fund make a huge difference long term. This pandemic is or was an opportunity for long term investing that only comes around once every 10 years or more.

At first we spent most of the summers in the mountains, usually with the grandkids, the rest of the year at or near home. We did some traveling, but that got old pretty quick. A lot of day trips to area sights, towns etc., to see people we knew. Now I never want to see the inside of another hotel room, or eat meal after meal at restaurants or fast foods.

Younger guys better plan. We were all told this and nobody listens.

My plan is to retire and not negatively effect my lifestyle. I’m doing my damndest to live now, hopefully that will carry through, if not I’ve done it.

That's difficult for younger retires to understand. Do it when you first retire.

Got married once....in Texas. Got divorced once...in Texas. Got married again...in Texas. Got divorced again...in Texas. The court created retirement plans for both spouses. The court removed my retirement plan. I am currently working on a new retirement plan. I just need to figure out how to work 5 more years after I’m dead so I can break even.

Marriage is grand. Divorce is a couple hundred thousand grand.

Only doing what I want when I want..lol

I just bought 16 acres with a nice pond, house and 40x40 insulated shop.

I think I could retire and be happy here until I can't take care of it anymore.

I'd love to get a small motor-home and travel with my wife. Possibly have a good dog to hit field trials along the way.

I was the same way with national NSTRA trials. Here is a picture that my wife took after we left the national endurance trial in Lewiston, Montana.

I don't want to retire and probably won't before my calling. But the ideal situation would be a small cabin on a trout stream and a small ranch to hunt, manage and lounge around while doing side jobs..
