I took one of these. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/05/full-16668-228927-image.jpg) And made this. Pass the seasoned butter please. You look to be struggling holding up those fish.

Do you still have that boat? Gave the boat to my daughter. This was my last trip. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/05/full-16668-228936-image.jpg)

"Gave the boat to my daughter" Did she drill holes in the hull and use it as a raised garden?

When I see ol' salts in a boat like that, I pay attention to where they are and what they are doing. Typically, they out fish me.

Yep. When I caught my 7-1/2 footer it was 26 or 27 years ago before they were endangered. It was also while snapper fishing and took at least an hour. I had a little snapper bit and had him off the bottom hoping for an amberjack. We kept him. I was going to mount the jaws, had them in my freezer. When we were moving my wife (without telling me) told the movers to just keep the meat we had in the freezer - fish, beef, venison, pork...hundreds of dollars worth. One of the packages was my jaws...I hope they cut their darn hands on his teeth opening the damn package... ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/05/full-2150-228951-fb_img_1588361513569.jpg) 8ft dusky. Me and my fishin buddy pulled up on a guy in a boat like that 30 years ago on Cypress Springs Lake in East Texas. That fellow asked how it was going.............we said "well, it's been kinda slow this morning, how 'bout you?" He reached over the side of the boat and pulled up a stringer of bass and crappie that would feed 10 people and said "I been doin' pretty good." We were in a slick metal flake bass boat with a big engine, he was in a little ol' v hull tin boat. Like you said. I learned to "pay attention" to those guys.

"We were in a slick metal flake bass boat with a big engine, he was in a little ol' v hull tin boat." They'd just come out with a new Pathfinder and Blossoms bought a 24 footer with Yamaha 150 twin rotating prop. Put in at CC and went south a little. Caught a lot of schoolie trout, but lil' in way of substance. Got back to the Marker 37 pier and a lil', 12', potato chip of a Dargl with two ol' timer on board and four rods - two with soft plastics and two with top waters pulled to the dock and started unloading bomber reds and some quality trout. We asked if they limited out and they replied, "No, we left some for tomorrow.". We didn't have enuff for supper.

Those guys could get a lot shallower places on that scooter than the pathfinder. They’ll float in 6” of water, and you can drift the shallows for miles.

Two totally different kinds of fights but both good. Amberjack are lb for lb the best fighter. A really big one (70lb+) you won't get it unless you are in a boat where the captain will pull it away from the rig or structure and your equipment is strong enough to literally hold on while the boat pulls it off. The Captain of the boat I used to go out on (John Stout on his 47' Post Sport Fisher "Possession Limit") held the state record for the longest at 110lb, not sure if he still does. When fishing for big AJ's we would use stand up belts/harnesses with Penn 50 or 80 size reels with 100lb spectra backing. AJ's have strength, Tuna have speed. They hit at speeds up to 50mph and just run. When that happens on a surface plug with you holding a heavy duty spinning rod..., it's awesome. Captain called it early. He said "that's either a huge grouper or a shark" we already had our limit of AJ's ( I've never fought tuna but AJ's are the best bang for the buck fish I've ever fought, it's like pulling a mad dog up a 15 story building.)
