I’ve never heard of this. I understand a lot of the standard vaccine requirements, but a flu vaccine? What job, school, or other establishments require this sort of thing?

When I worked in the ER @ Baylor, they made me get it. First time I had got the shot in years & haven't had one since I quit working there. Only time I got the flu was when I got the flu shot.

Jobs that work with high risk populations....old folks homes, hospitals, clinics, etc. My work doesn’t require them but provides it for free along with hep b vaccinations.

I worked at Baylor for 11 years and now Texas Health for 10. My second year at Baylor ('99) they started requiring all employees to receive a flu shot.

Most hospitals, potentially nursing home staff, things like that. People in healthcare that work with vulnerable populations. I offer the vaccine at my office for the staff but do not require it, though we do document who gets it and who doesn’t. The state actually wants records of what percentage of our staff get it, so we have to track that.

For what it's worth, probably jinxing my track record, but in 20 years of receiving the vaccine I have yet to get the Flu even when friends and family around me have had it.

The problem is there are so many viruses that cause similar symptoms. We had a bad year with a lot of people that got sick but tested negative for flu this past late fall early winter. I think we all saw the same stuff, fever and cough for a few days followed by cruddy cough for several weeks. None tested positive, we treated a few (anyone that wanted it) with tamiflu but that didn’t seem to help anyone.
In years past we do see some that don’t get the vaccine get the flu, most that get the vaccine don’t. This year was just different. For the record I don’t think that crud was covid either. My brother in law had the same stuff and ended up getting cardiomyopathy and getting really sick from that. He recently got tested for covid antibodies, and was negative. The difference between that crud and the current covid is no one was dying from that crud, no one was being hospitalized...it was just a nagging cough but not covid. That gets back to my first sentence in this post....too many viruses out there.

Always nice to hear some first hand information, though.

As a FF & EMT-P, I'm around high risk people every day but luckily my department doesn't make us get it. I think if they required us, they'd have to require every city employee & pay for it. That's probably why we don't.

One of my daughter-in-laws is a nurse at a hospital and is required to get it. It was always offered by my employer and free so I took it. Never had the flu expect the one year I didn't take it.

I had to get one when I worked in a hospital in the mid 90s. I didnt like that it was mandatory, but I needed the job.

Not mandatory but the county I work for provides it for free.
This year was the first year in the past 25 years that I received a flu shot and got the flu. 3 days after getting it I was back at work.

Yup, I get a mandatory flu shot every year. Never had the flu in all my years, but I did have a bad reaction to one back in 98. Knocked me out for a day or so.
