I've seen quite a few posts on social media from people who have run across snakes, including the posts of those looking to thump their chest for "relocating" the venomous types. (I've considered asking them if they will come and relocate the fire ants, moles, and wasp nests that I find on my place but that's for another day.) With the warm Spring weather hitting a little earlier this year, perhaps snakes will be a little more problematic this year.

Haven't seen any snakes this year. Scorpions seem to be thriving around here.

It was after I saw my first scorpion in East Texas that I started checking any boots or shoes that I happened to leave outside before slipping my foot into them. I understand the ones in East Texas don't get very big but neither does a red wasp.

Not any more than usual but copperheads are pretty active right now.

I saw my first coachwhip yesterday, seen the usual rat snakes in the road. Baby cooperheads should start coming out soon.

I walk in the mornings, let the bird dog run. I've seen two so far this Spring. Saw one of them this morning.
Copperhead, about 20" long, kinda fat. She'd been run over out on the road. There's creek drainage right there. I'm sure she was attracted to frogs, lizards, etc. around that ditch.

At the ranch, my help killed a diamondback rattlesnake by the firewood stack near the cabin, and I have run into a plain-bellied watersnake and a coachwhip in the last couple of weeks. There was also a small dead garter snake by the front gate someone probably ran over. They are definitely active.

Have cats out in the barn. They come down around the house all the time, never let in the house, but welcomed around the house. Haven’t seen a snake in yard in years! Knock on the old wooden head.....
