Having trouble keeping my feeder pens cow proof..I've been using tie wire to hold panels together..the kind used for concrete work with pig tail tool. Well guess what. I'm having pix of a cow inside my feeder pen...question..besides going out and buying a wire welder..what are some suggestions..I thought of hog nose rings..but don't know if those are big enough..thanks in advance

is the cow breaking the tie point wire? or jumping over panels? what height panels? T-posts to hold in place or just panels wired together?

once a cow realizes they can jump or push over a panel, its hard to keep them out. Need to figure out how they are getting in first to be able to troubleshoot the fix ...

They are pushing until wire breaks..I'm gonna try 14 gauge electric fence wire..what happens with the tie wire.is it doesn't have enough resistance after it is twisted..break [Linked Image]
s easy..steel wire hopefully will have more strength

looks like what I have used on over a dozen pens (electric fence wire to tie). I usually cut off a piece about 18" long, double it, wrap and twist a couple times. seems to hold well. This has worked on the pens I have out in Ozona that has a bunch feral cattle and horses without any issue in 5 years since building out there since they were tearing up my feeders.

I can't see from your pictures.

I drive T posts every 8', each 16' panel being supported by 3 posts, each end & one in center.
overlap each panel by at least one square, tie the overlap panels together in at least 5 places. usually use 9ga utility/brace wire.
tie the panels to T posts in 3 places. Usually use standard T post ties / clips.
Panels go on outside of T posts, facing what you want to keep out.

Couple of rogue bulls getting after my protein this year. Had to add extra t-posts and 2 strands of barb wire on top. Frustrating.

Are the deer still getting in or has it slowed them down any ?

Electric fence wire or tape attached to a solar fence charger.

Deer still coming in like nothing changed. Looks like a prison yard though!

I just planted millet, will run a wire 1300 feet using this elect fence. For $150 if it works it will be a bargain. I"d try that around your feeder. Tractor Supply. Once cows figure out they can muscle something, they normally keep doing it. Will it keep the deer out also???? --- hmmmm I dont know. Maybe put the wire 4 inches outside, along the panel,,, deer might jump it and never hit the wire.

Electric fence kept cows out and didn't deter the deer at my feeder other than just getting used to something different. Had one cow that could get in and not damage the pen at all. She made decent hamburger...

I had the same problem this year. A new young bull would almost walk through the panel. I welded angle iron around the edges of hog panels. Then ran 4pt barb wire a foot or so above. Five months in and no issues.

Darn good looking pen. If I have to build another it will be square too. Hard to run barb wire in a circle and keep it tight!

11 16 foot, 34 inch tall hog panels, 12 if you prefer not to also purchase a gate. Overlap the panels and put down something solid at the corners. With this configuration, here is plenty o' room inside and can you run barb wire a couple pf inches over the panel 9if needed). Put your gate or entry on any side other than the one facing your blind.
