I hear a lot about this and was wondering if it is done just to find the sheds and keep or to sell them? If you are selling them are they bringing that much money?

I don't know about sheds but I know people pay good money for mounts.

My son and I enjoy she’d hunting but we just keep the sheds. Gives us an idea of what is out there and if we find a shed of a deer we hadn’t seen all season.

Elk sheds bring decent money, I've bought some to use on my knives but I wouldn't think that whitetail sheds would bring much unless they are really big.

I think a lot of folks sell them to companies that cut them up and sell as high end dog chews. They buy them by the pound. Seems to me like you would have to find an awful lot to make it worth your while, financially.

I would rather be shed hunting than watching tv.

SherpaPhil you are correct in the numbers. I have a contact in Colorado that does nothing but buy and sell sheds. He is busy year round with this. And he is making good money. I know it is good money because when I first met him he told me he had a couple of small tubs of original wiggle warts that he wanted to sell. Showed me pictures and I made an offer that he accepted except they are somewhere is his store house and he has no time to go dig them out. Been over a year since but he says we are still good to go when he gets time. Headed up there this summer and hope they have had a poor year of shed finding.

Shed hunting is big business up here. Our public land season opens on the west side of the state on May 1. Some are calling for the governor to close it down for NR for first few weeks. The Utards are really nervous that it may happen. Looks like brown deer may bring $10/lb or so. Sets always bring a better price. https://www.monstermuleys.info/xf/threads/looking-to-sell-antlers.180693/

Found a nice one with a tractor tire, rear tire of course.

The ones I find are given to the dog, unless they are really special

I hunted them and used them in callmaking and other stuff. Even the sall ones were used. Drill the tips out and epoxy a holder for key rings, or drill and make ceiling fan pulls. Done right, they can look almost like ivory, The larger pieces were drilled and turned in to speicalty calls, about 4 times the price of wood calls. Axis shed, they are better than whitetail deer, less pith and polish up beautifully. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/04/full-3152-226577-003_640x477.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2020/04/full-3152-226578-005_640x480_1.jpg)

While my son and I were nearly killing ourselves off -loading a blind today (my little John Deere had one rear wheel off the ground), my wife, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter found a matched pair of a young eight at "The Bluff". The little girl was tickled and couldn't wait to show her friends at school, on-line of course.
