Difficult to tell by looking at the bark. The small leaves look somewhat like a live oak, but unlike most of my post, you can't take it to the bank.

Going out on a limb to say cottonwood. Lookin at the bark pattern, tree rungs (and rot), and leaves, given the poor pictures, that would be my guess. You can burn it but may need to seasoned it for a bit or it will smell pretty strong. Burns as hot as oak and cleans easy (no major waxy soot).

The heart wood looks a lot like some Cedar Elm I worked with a while back.

Burn some. If it smells bad, it’s elm.
