And the 4x4 Off Road package is the best 4x4 out there. Ehhh Ford Raptor might have something to say about that one... I thought your's was 2WD? No, quit listening to Josh he is a little slow. Even with 2WD it would probably go more places than most Rams. Will it be able to shimmy and shake like a raptor going through a small mud patch is the big question...

The BFG AT KO2 tires, which come original equipment on the Raptors, absolutely suck in Texas mud. Throw on some better tires and it will be formidable, with locking rear differential, Torsen front diff, and almost 14 inches of wheel travel.

There has been enough testimony on this thread to justify buying a Dodge, or a Ford, or a GMC, depending on your preferences.

I’ve owned all of the big 3 and been pleased with all of them. Currently in a 2015 Ram 1500. For my needs it’s at the moment it is the best truck I have ever owned. 85,000 miles zero issues legit only oil and filters. It’s quiet and smooth looks good to me. I like it.

I’ve put plenty of Fords and Dodges through plenty of abuse in the oilfield, where they see some genuine work, as well as a couple GM pickups. I’m no longer a fanboy of any brand. These are my findings. Take ‘em or leave ‘em.
GM: They’re soft and require babying to survive. Not really worth discussing further.
Dodge: They’re cheaper for a reason. While some do go a million miles, many are riddled with issues from the start. I’ve had issues with everything, but it does seem they’ve beefed up some of the chassis, lately. A lot of issues were related to the emissions on the diesels. The exhaust would back up and either need replaced and/or blow turbos or the whole motor. We idled our pickups a lot, which contributed greatly to that, but we didn’t have that issue with the Fords. While Obama can be blamed for that unnecessary restriction, Ford at least found ways to mitigate the idling issues. Shorts in the steering wheel were and are, apparently, a very common issue. I’d say more Dodges than not, that I’ve driven, have had some sort of electrical issue in the steering wheel. Anything from pushing on the steering wheel to engage the brakes to the cruise control working sporadically. I drove one that was very finicky about starting due to the placement of the steering wheel and just how hard you hit it prior to turning the key. While on location, a frac hand isolated the wrong pump in the middle of a stage, and blew a 2” chiksan off the discharge. The concussion from that explosion was enough to shut the truck off. Now, the half tons we’ve had have been pretty tough. They were very neglected. While they did have minor issues, it was pretty understandable. They were a mix of Hemi’s and the smaller V8’s. I was pretty surprised at just how reliable they were, given the issues we’d had with the bigger pickups.
Ford: While they haven’t been as reliable as I’d prefer, they’ve held up better than others in the 3/4 ton and up category. I did have a half ton, as well, that seemed bulletproof compared to the Chevy before it. The diesels had some issues, but they were typically minor. You aren’t likely to get the million miles out of a Powerstroke, but my experience has been that within 200k, you’ll experience fewer and smaller issues than the rest.
The three previous outfits that I’ve worked for have started with Dodge and switched to Ford without looking back. None even considered a GM product. My current outfit went with Dodge 3/4 tons with gas motors to save money. They saved quite a bit, too. My current Dodge has been used but not abused. It has the bigger Hemi and runs well. The cruise control is starting to have issues, of course, but is otherwise trouble free.
If going the half ton route, I can confidently say that you won’t beat a Tundra on any account but fuel consumption. Otherwise, Ford and Dodge are competitive, though I would go Ford. GM is something I just can’t recommend at any level. If you’re looking for something stouter, I would go Ford. Their new 7.3 gas motor looks promising, and the 6.7 Powerstroke is pretty solid.

There's a reason 90%+ of hot shot trucks are Dodge 6.7's. At least around the greater Houston area. Affordable and they just work.

I’ve owned 4 - all heavy duty’s. I like them other than none of them drive straight. Each one pulls to the right.
2 - 2500 tradesman, 1- Laramie 2500, 1-3500 dually Mid level package.
I get the 1500 as service loaners that don’t have the same issue. I like them even better.

Same boat I was in a year ago. I needed a truck and shopped several. Ended up with a ram. 22k brand new out the door. Ford was 36k and Chevy was 37k. Even tried Toyota and it was about 33k if I remember. I drive so much that resale doesn’t really matter anymore. I save it on the front side. Decent truck really no complaints. Getting about 24-25mpg and hauls what I need it to. I have no brand loyalty so I’ll consider anything.

I’d say the number is more like 80% though. There is not a clear leader in the pickup market, if there was the numbers would show it. Chad, normally your right when you make a statement, the Raptor is the clear leader in that segment of the market AND I don’t think you can even buy a 4wd GM pickup with out some kind of limited slip/locking rear differential since about 2005.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

so much cheaper than GM and Ford? I really don't want a Dodge, but pricing is pushing me toward changing my mind. Do they fall apart early or something? never even known anyone with a Dodge I don't think. I'll have a better answer here in about a year, just bought 4 of them for the ranch, I haven't bought one yet but it will be my next truck. As much of a GMC fan as I am, I don't want another one. Mine rides nice and has a great 4x4 system and with the 6.2 theres no wanting for power but! They have a fuel system that's not reliable and has left me stranded several times, even had to have a wrecker pick mine up twice on the ranch. The low pressure pump at the tank and the hi pressure pump at the manifold just can't seem to get it together and GMC and the dealer seem to be ignoring the problem. If you've driven the older vehicles it acts just like it's vapor locking, many times it will start back up after it's sat for about 15 minutes. We buy 3 to 4 new trucks every year, since we went to the 6.2's we've had nothing but problems with the fuel system. If the Dodges don't hold up we'll try Fords again and we lost faith in Ford many years ago.Our trucks see allot of abuse and rough rocky roads, it took out the Nissan Titans we bought in less than a year. Where we wear out a truck is in the running gear and suspension, rarely will a truck have over 80,000 on it before it's time to trade, so a diesel is out of the question.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I bought a new truck last year. I am and have always been a Mopar guy, Chevy second, always hated Ford. That said, it was cheap 2019 F250s that got me looking at trucks, I had a 2016 Longhorn that I put 9000 miles on it in 3 years so I didnt really NEED a new truck. Deciding I wouldnt be brand loyal without shopping the others first I looked at all of them, even Tundras. Comparably optioned trucks the pricing was pretty close across the three. Comfort to option to technology the Ram beat all of them hands down, price was never the deciding factor in the end. . Reminds me of the Viper truck vs the Ford Lightning. Way more HP than the Lightning, but the lightning was a true street truck vs the oversized heavy Viper truck that, from most accounts, was like driving a boat. The SRT10 was faster than the Lightning

Here are the trucks I have owned and I bought all of them new .
1979 GMC Heavy Half 1988 GMC 1500 1991 GMC 1500 2000 Chevrolet Z71 4x4 2003 Dodge 2500 4x4 5.9 Cummins (still my daily driver)
The Dodge has been the best truck for me by far. The paint has been better than any GM product and the engine and transmission have never had a wrench on them. If I had to buy a new one tomorrow I would probably look at the new dodges first. I did look at all 3 (Dodge , Chevy and Ford) about 3 month ago and did not like the look of any of the half ton trucks. The 3/4 ton trucks look more appealing to me but I really do not need a 3/4 ton truck any longer.

The dealers and their service departments make and or break the brand. The service writers work on commission, some are pushy POS only looking at the commission not what is needed done.

I think I have been back to a dealer for service a whole whopping 3 times in my entire driving life and one of those was for a free oil change.
