I am shooting fiocchi 125 sst out of the 300blk. I'm not having issues with the 300blk. The issue is with the .223. I need a round with more meat to pair with my IR scope.

300 HAM'R and never look back! Bill Wilson has already done all the research work for us, and his list of bullets and loads that he has found most accurate and effective is quite impressive!

Rebarrel the 300 w/6.8 ARP barrel and matching bolt or buy complete upper and a couple of mags and load those mags with 120gr SSTs. 15 round mags loaded with 7 or 9 rounds feeds like butter and are short enough to not be obtrusive but allow followup shots if you hit a big sounder. Keep the BCG for a spare for your 5.56 as the price of a 6.8 bolt to fit the 5.56 carrier is almost the same. Sell or keep the 300 barrel....I kept wandering back to the 300 until I found the 6.8 and later, add a few parts and you have the 300 upper complete. The 300 is pretty good at soft skinned critters out to 150 yards so it's just another tool for you to use. I am not looking at re-barreling the 300BLK. My wife calls that "her" rifle. She would have a fit if I changed it. I am looking at re-barelling the .223. That or buying another upper for it. Go with another upper in 6.8 (or 6.5 - still gotta build one of those myself) then and you can have .223 available in the time it takes to change the upper and .223 ammo is easier to get and cheaper to shoot. If you have a .223 Wylde chamber you can also shoot 5.56 MilSpec stuff. You can leave optics in place and be ready to rock in less time than it takes to read this message. I run same buffer and spring with my .223 Wylde and 6.8 and they work well. Captian Obvious knows any caliber you can hit with will take down a hog if you hit it in the right place while it's standing still. Once they start running, a small caliber will make them run faster and a large caliber will give you lots of lag time to watch the pigs run off between a shot and getting back on target. The 6.8 with AR Performance barrel and 120gr SSTs has given me the best results with excellent accuracy to go with my two main requirements: good stopping power and very manageable recoil to get back on target quickly. Disclaimer: YMMV - I do what works for me.

And the Grendel and the 6.8 SPC have been around over 15 years, have multiple ammunition manufacturers and manuals full of load data.

Love my 300 Hamrs but wouldn't hesitate to go back to 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel.

I’ve got the original Springfield Saint .223 just I never even get out of the safe anymore. I’ve been using the Ruger .350 Legend. This 6.8spc has me interested, could I buy a 6.8 upper and throw on my saint?

I have most of them all. My daytime is a 6.5 Grendel and Photon is on my 6.8 SPC. Both fairly inexpensive to shoot. I use the SST’s but have had good luck with others. I also have a 556, 7.62x39, and 450 Bushmaster. I love the 450 but has quite a bit more recoil and more expensive to shoot. My buddy has only the 556. He’s killed several hogs with it but had more runners. His comment the other day was “I’m done with the 556, and I’m going to build a 308!”
