I have a FLIR PTS536 and the CR123 batteries are expensive and don't last long. I hate changing batteries in the dark and having to worry about them period.

What external battery are you guys using and how do you secure them to your rifle?

Do you have a short cable with a 90* connector on it so it doesn't stick out from the scope so far?

thanks

What's the external port on the FLIR? If you look real close, under the back of my scope, you can see a shotgun-shell sized rechargeable battery with a USB port mounted to the pic rail. I never have to change batteries in a night, now at the same time, I don't just leave it on.

The Mini USB is on the side of the FLIR in a place that a straight connector sticks out perpendicular to the scope and is easy to bump. A 90* Mini USB will help. What brand battery did you use?

Here is what you need. Check out this thread. I have done this hack and it works great and is probably one of the cheapest way to go...

Thank you!

I went out coyote hunting last night and my PTS536 took a dump for the 3rd time! Needless to say I am beyond pissed. When I first bought it , it shut off on recoil frequently. Sent it to FLIR and got it back a month later. Then it shut off and would not reboot. Sent it back to FLIR and received back a REFURBISHED unit. That unit had all kinds of issues , flickering screen, red screen, etc. Sent back to FLIR and received another refurbished unit. Last night the screen went was unusable. Looked lick a lightning storm. Tried reboot, tried return to factory settings, nothing.

I'm sure I'll probably get no response from FLIR because of Corona Virus and the fact that it is near impossible to get response from them during normal business environment.

I don't know if you will get a response from them or not. FLIR will be open as an essential business (government contractor), but whether or not they will bother with their civilian side is a whole other matter. Good luck!

Hate to hear you're having such problems with the 536. I've had one over a year now and I do experience occasional lockups/shut offs on shooting. This weekend I shot 2 hogs and got no video recorded, even though the scope showed ARM. I like the scope and have killed a lot of critters with it but I'll probably replace it this year with a Halo.
As far as batteries, I use rechargeables off Amazon. I don't leave the scope on all the time since I usually hunt in a blind, but I'll turn it on and scan for 10-15 minutes, then turn it off for a while then repeat. I hunted Friday night and Saturday 3 hours both nights and the batteries never moved off full charge.

Sorry, I just noticed your question... Was bought back in 2016, but still works as new...

You can get just about any cable setup you need off Amazon.

Good luck with your scope repair.
