What are some of the best products to plant in the spring . I hunt in NE Texas. Looking at about 1/2 acre to plant. Thinking about clover mix with chicory.

For prepared blends of seed varieties;

Turner seed, spring deer mix - Turner seed gets most of my seed business, very knowledgeable helpful folks, will custom blend to your specifications.

MBS, spring deer blend.

Justin seed, not a fan of their spring mix, but carry good variety of seeds if you know what you want.

East Texas seed company, deer plot mix, spring

Pennington, spring & summer deluxe

First couple of years that I had my land I planted Spring food plots and didn't get any activity in them. I read somewhere that there is so much native food sprouting for the deer in the Spring that they prefer over anything else that's it's a waste of time. Then the heat kicks in and it all dies out. Now I keep a feeder full of corn to keep them coming by the food plot, minerals and Black Magic.

If I have the time, I'll fertilize and lime in the Spring and disk it all up so it's ready for the Fall.

We plant peas, soybeans primarily. Some of the plots are hammered hard all spring and summer, some will not be touched in the "spring" but will get hammered later in the summer. Seems like when they need it, they eat it.
