The coronavirus is starting to spread aboard the flattop amphibious assault ship USS Boxer.

The Navy revealed Wednesday that a second sailor assigned to the warship has tested positive for the virus. Both of the infected sailors are currently in isolation.

"There is no indication that the Sailors were in close contact aboard the ship," the Navy said, adding that "the Sailors work in two different departments."

The Navy has reported multiple cases aboard several different ships, the first of which was the Boxer currently at port in San Diego, California. The latest marks the first time two sailors assigned to the same ship have tested positive.

The U.S. Navy said three sailors on board the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The report marks the first incident of the virus aboard a U.S. warship, according to Fox News.

U.S. officials said the affected sailors have been placed in quarantine and will be flown from the ship Tuesday.

The ship holds a crew of 5,000 sailors as well as dozens of fighter jets and other types of aircraft.

A Navy official said they would proceed as usual following the removal of the sailors who tested positive, saying, "You have to continue the mission."

Hope they have the PPE to protect them. Most ships are geared for ABC warfare. Still a gamble if it get started and spreads.

There are 227 cases of coronavirus among active duty service members, according to Defense Department data as of Wednesday morning, up from 133 on Monday. The number of recoveries has also risen, the data shows, with 19 troops returned to duty total, 15, since Monday.

That figure puts service member cases at about 175 per million troops. The rate is higher than the U.S. at large which according to the CDC is sitting at 135 per million as of Wednesday. And while no troops have died from COVID-19, the overall U.S. death rate is sitting slightly above 1 percent.

US orders a 60-day freeze on overseas troop movements due to coronavirus pandemic

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper has signed an order freezing the movements of all US troops overseas for 60 days due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to three defense officials. It means all US service members overseas or currently scheduled to deploy from the US will stay in their current locations for the next 60 days.

The freeze-in-place order will affect 90,000 expected scheduled deployments, including both troops scheduled to return home and troops scheduled to deploy overseas. There will be several exceptions including for naval vessels scheduled to return to the US.
