I was making the 4 hour drive home from the lease today and had my music on shuffle and Die Young from Kesha came on lol. Brought back good memories of my last deployment. Before every route clearance mission which we would be looking for IEDs I would crank this song up in my truck. The first time I played it I started laughing and my driver and gunner gave me a funny look. After that it became a ritual. You see when your in the lead truck and never know when you may be blown to smitherines you got to find a way to take your mind off that and this song which made us laugh did just that. 4 young men riding down afghan highways trying not to die listening to a song called “Die young”
Wouldn’t go back but sure as heck miss it and the people.

Don’t judge me on my music choices haha

Cool story! I haven't the faintest idea what song you're talking about but anything to relieve the stress in those situations is worth it. Thank you for your service. flag

Seems like forever ago to me lol. Very grateful to have had so much support from the THF family back then.

In Afghanistan, very time we had a 9-Line drop we would crank "Jack and Diane" in the trauma bay. Then it would go dead silent as soon as the birds landed right before we'd go to work. Every time I hear that song now it brings back sights and sounds, some that I want to forget and others that I never want to forget.

I'll never forget, a dismounted Marine squad got hit with an IED. The Sgt had both his legs blown off and he was intubated but still awake. Can still smell the blood, smoke, and charred flesh. He wanted something to write on. 1st question, "How are my Marines?" 2nd question, "Do I still have my junk?" He did.

Can't remember his name though...and that's bothers me.

in 2008 in Iraq we had a house blow up on an infantry squad and 2 marine corps EOD techs when one of the Iraqis they were working with kicked in a door detonating the bomb. I found one of the EOD techs behind the house with half a brick wall on top of him. I ran to get help and a stretcher. We got the bricks off him put him on a liter and carried him to the bird. I heard one person say he made it and another say he didn’t in the days following the incident. I still today don’t know if he survived. While doing first aid on him we determined he had two broken legs and prob many more internal injuries. He was unconscious but making some really weird moaning sounds when we got him on the bird. I wish I knew for sure if he made it or not.

We all often relive the memories we wish to surpress.

Welcome home. Good job.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

When I hear The Black Crowes or Red Hot I see my bro’s in the Persian Gulf. Some good memories some real messed up ones too.

That’s how I feel about WWII and Vietnam Vets. Hell if it wasn’t for them I may have never had the opportunity to serve this great Country.
