A little off topic, but thought it was worth mentioning. Every one needs to be sure this off season to put “witness marks” on our ram rods to prevent double loading incidents.Stay safe until this Covid-19 runs its course!

Guys, I think it’s past time to add a couple of new descriptors to the muzzle loading lexicon just to clear things for future discussions.

I propose we all use the terms “Traditional Muzzle Loader or TML” and “Modern Muzzle Loader or MML”.

I only shoot TMLs - though I did have an in-line in the 80s that was a pure target gun for shooting PRBs w iron sights. I have nothing against MMLs. A good friend and great TML shooter in the 80s now needs a scope and at near 73 years of age I may require one in the future. Far future I hope.

Let’s also include distance and position. My best 100 yard off hand target at the Texas MLRA matches was in 2015. Firing a .40 flintlock Southern Mountain Rifle scored 48X and measures 4.5”. Picture available but I’m very low tech and haven’t figured out how to post it here.

Good health and God bless,
TC

The answer is FLINTLOCK! Now, what was the question?

Probably a good idea to break it down into those two terms. I don't deal with MLs enough to remember the initials but if you said Traditional or Modern I would know what you mean. By the way, I cant hit the broad side of a barn with any weapon OFF HANDED so congrats on some amazing shooting.

I agree.

cheers TML (traditional) & MML (modern) scratch the T&M are the differance, both load down the muzzle...
Traditional is the sidelock cap & flint lock, & the ever more primative rifles, using goex powder or some of the smokeless powders...
Modern is the in lines, using 205 caps... The powder is higher grade, (might not be best term), pretty much same powder as the cartrage rifles, without the cartrage...
Improving group shots at greater distances..
All the rifles pictured in this thread are in lines, easy ta see...
Am pretty sure the OP was about the in-lines...
Blackpowder hunts No in-lines are allowed...
Years ago on WMA had asked about using my BP pistal on a hunt for hogs, during a hunt..
Was told no cause its not loaded down muzzle, bang already new that, & explained its BP...
Was told in-lines weren't allowed...
Kinda like the archery deer hunts, crossbow wasnt allowed... They might now be allowed..
Here, majority are using the in-lines, unlike back in the 70's whin hunted with Ol Kentucky
All my guns were left in texas took bus ride, so started over, cheers still got me guns for hunting texas thar.
Couldnt find a .45 my prefured cal. So got a .50 in-line... Me shoulders cant take the beating no more no more...
back with in-lines its possable... powder tis biggest differance...
Keep your head held high & your powder dry...
