So for those that use brass to make other calibers, how do you ID the Brass?
Sample example, you use 7mm08 to make 260 Remington. The brass is stamped 7mm08, what different ways are you using to keep your brass desperate. I was just using a marker to color the bottom of the brass, the color was for a specific caliber. Problem is once you tumble, the colors are gone. Just wondering what others may do. Thought about sanding off the stamped caliber but that probably would not be safe.

You keep the brass separated at all times and only clean and tumble them by themselves (or with other non-similar rounds). I would keep them in their own ammo box, like a 100 count MTM box. I also like using zip lock bags so I can write on them for contents or status of the brass.

I had/have a boat load of 270 brass. I acquired a 30-06 and had no brass so sized some 270 to 30-06 and loaded some up. I was planning to just keep separate in loading boxes, but decided that was too much effort/risk and ended up trashing it, it was only 20 now twice fired 270 rem factory ammo brass so not a big loss lol.

At a minimum I would write on them with a sharpie or something.

That is basically what I have been doing in the past making 7mm08 out of 308 brass. I was just wondering if there was a way of marking them in case something got dumped.

When I ws loading 22-243 and 243 ammo I used Remington primers that re not the normal silver colored in the 243 so a quick look at the primer color told me quickly which it was. That was just another way along with keeping it separate in different containers. The old belt and suspenders. I also loaded the hunting ammo with Swift Siroccos in the 22-243 so with the black tip it was easy to notice. Another difference is in the wildcat round I only used Lapua brass so that was an easy check as well.

There are ways but the just keeping it separate in different boxes is a good start

I have 2 Grendels, one a bolt action and one AR. The Boltaction gets Lapua brass the AR gets all the other brass.

Just a thought...

There are these enamel based paints people use to fill in relieved spots, such as logos and engravings. I believe some people even use fnger nail polish. regardless, mayeb you can fill in the stamping on the base of the brass and leave it as a more permanent marking system. lord knows there's more than about nail polish colors out there.

Any think of any issues with this?

keeping separate is the first step like others have said. Should be good on filling in the stamped info on the base. I have several 45-70 and LC 30-06 cases that have red color in the lettering form years and years ago. (maybe Factory)? it wears off a little over time but no issues. Just make sure to keep in in the recess of the lettering and not on the flat surface that contacts the bolt face..
