My sister, the gun toting, gun loving liberal visited this weekend. She expressly visited to help clean the gun room. So she drug me in there kicking and screaming Sunday and a lot of stuff happened. I found all sorts of stuff I didn’t remember I had, but a few pieces really caught my eye.

It’s a fairly old Ruger 10/22 receiver that I built up many years ago, bagged and resting in the safe. I polished it a little to give it bling and assembled it with a few mods and Kidd parts. The bolt is a CPC, trigger is a Power Custom modded Ruger housing.





The ready-to-mount scope is a VX II 4 - 12 AO. The barrel came via a THF member. It’s a YHM/ER Shaw match barrel with a tight chamber. If it gives me trouble (ejecting unfired rounds for instance), it’ll go to CPC for a tune up.



The real prize here is the old Ruger thumb groove walnut stock. They’re getting pretty rare. I pillared it long ago and waited to find a use for it. This is what I was waiting for. The silver and walnut look pretty good together!





I’ll assemble it and mount the scope later. It’s my movie/nap time soon.

Coincidentally, I dug my old 10/22 stock out of the back of the closet a few weeks ago (cheap birch carbine stock) and chopped it up. I opened the barrel channel to accept a .9” barrel, added 2” to the comb, 1.25” to the LOP, made a brass pillar from a plumbing fitting, bedded the pillar, bedded the receiver and bedded about 1.5” of the barrel forward of the action. It’s floated the rest of the way out. Once I got done with all that, I “body worked” it with bondo and sanded her smooth. Originally I was going to duracoat the stock black or FDE but I liked the rough “junkyard dog” look so much I sprayed 3 coats of satin clear duracoat on it and left the mismatched wood and bondo showing.

She is all freshened up with a new Volquartsen pic mount and Holosun 510 on top. My plan is to shoot steel matches with it.
