There was some interest for pics in Cast’s thread and I didn’t want to junk his thread up so I started my own. I don’t typically name my guns but “scrappy” came to mind due to obvious reasons.

The stock was a takeoff carbine stock, the low end model. I opened the barrel channel, raised the comb, added LOP, chopped the bottom of the stock to blend better with the new comb shape, made a pillar, bedded the pillar, bedded the action, recoil lug and about 1.5” of the barrel just in front of the action. The barrel is floated the rest of the way out.

I added bondo, and did a bunch of sanding and shaping. Originally I was going to duracoat the stock either black or FDE. The rough “scrappy” look grew on me so I just shot 3 coats of clear satin duracoat on and called her done.

I already had the barreled action from a previously unused build so I stole it, added new optic and mount.

I have 2 weekends of work in a $20.00 stock, but she fits and handles much better now. My intention is to shoot some steel matches with her.

Gonna run a stock pack because I missed the comb height by about a 1/4”.

Was really proud of the pillar I made. Saw a tutorial on the rimfire forum, worked slow and it came out great.

Cool! You should sign up for the .22 league and shoot it on the 29th! It’s gonna be a lot of fun.

It looks like a lot of fun! I’m eat up with PCC right now and not set up for 100-200yard .22lr shots but the format looks like a blast. I am anxious to read all the “after-match” trash-talkn’ though..

Thanks everyone! Should be a fun gun to shoot!

I’m sure you already know this but the single action screw on the 10/22 pulls the action down against the wooden stock. The stock’s wooden mating surface compresses inconsistently under mounting screw torque. Also the torque can change due to the expansion/contracting of the wood in varying weather. The pillar, theoretically, provides a more consistent mating surface. It is probably a useless mod for my purposes but a bench shooter would likely see a benefit. I stole this pic from the web but it will give you a better idea of how it’s bedded in the stock.

The pillar also allows us to tighten down the action screw enough to lock the action in place. It’s a must if you want a 10/22 to shoot right.
