Had a blowout loaded down with a ton of protein in the back of my truck, So thankful it was a rear tire. My jack was under the forty bags of feed. I was on 97 between Fowlerton and Los Angeles. When I got to changing the tire on the shoulder of the highway with all of the oil field trucks humming by, it was quite "fun". The P/U would shake as each one rolled by. it was only a 100 degrees or so. Who thinks of taking water when they head to the feed store? It was a memorable afternoon.

Driving back from Eagle Pass yesterday going about 75 when the driver side front tire blows out. Luckily no other vehicles around me when it happened. Scared the snot out of myself and the wife. 73 years old and I believe this was my first. My first blowout ever was a left front tire, on loop 820 (back in the skinny lanes day) at westcreek, semi on my left and that old cutlass was trying it's damnedest to switch into that left lane lol. Talk about a good ol fashioned pucker!!
This cannot be fixed at the voting booth.. Wake Up You Morons!

I’ve had 4 blow outs on a vehicle. 2 front and 2 rear. Strangely enough, 1 front and 1 rear while pulling a trailer and 1 front and 1 rear not pulling a trailer.
Rears are the worse, or they were for me. Sent the truck into a 70mph fishtail on a dark 2 lane road. I couldn’t stay out of the ditch. Both front were on a busy highway and not very exciting. The rear tire while pulling a trailer wasn’t very exciting either, just very destructive.

All my tires were in good order. 2 of the blowouts were due to large pieces of metal, other 2 were sidewall failures. I replace tires every 1.5 years

I had several when growing up. We had tube tires. We all had little patching kits for punctures. They sold boots for some of the larger holes.

had one coming back to Dallas from South Texas one night about 2AM making a run for home. Out in no mans land I hit a 4x4x8 laying in the middle of the road doing about 90mph. I hit it but never slowed down, hehe. I go to a town and decided to see the damage. Stopped at the light after the exit and it was riding on the rim. Changed the tire for the spare and hit the road again , made it home. The tire was punctured hitting the 4x4 but the centrifugal force of spinning at 90mph the tire stayed up. Crazy

Does Goodyear take any responsibility for damages do to blow outs? Don, that looks like it may be a failure at the wear bar. If you got the tires from a Goodyear store you may have some recourse. If from anyone else, good luck.

If from anyone else, good luck. The tires came with the truck when I bought it new. They have 22,000 miles on them. I took it by the dodge dealer where I bought the truck and they say it is goodyears fault. I took it to discount tire then because they sell Goodyear tires and they were a little nicer. Said that because the tire had more than 1/16 wear Goodyear would not guarantee it. I did get a discount for prorated wear on a new tire. They would submit the tire to Goodyear for evaluation and we shall see where that goes. Also the tire pressure sensor was no longer there so I had to buy a new one of those. And no I did not buy another Goodyear tire. I contacted USAA and they are coming Monday to give the estimate for a new fender and liners. I have a $500 deductible so the blown tire will end up costing me around $700. But at least no hospital or funeral home charges were involved.

I’d file a claim with Goodyear. If they determine it was a defect they will cover everything usually.

Bill, do you remember the patches that had a metal side plate and you set the side opposite the tube on fire? Once the whole thing cooled down you pealed the tin piece off and the patch was bonded to the tube.

Clamped down the plate and used a match to set it on fire. They were good. Vulcanizing patch I think they were called.

I used them from time to time.

Crazy I’m going to have to call on that. There isn’t a tire made that will support a vehicle with no air unless it’s solid rubber.

Discount Tire is sending it to Goodyear so we shall see if they will help with fixing the damage their crappy tire did.

Goodyear got my tire from Discount Tire about a week and a half ago. They are going to inspect it tomorrow. Around $1200 damage to my truck. I have a $500 deductible. See if Goodyear will pay the deductible or if they say the blow out was my fault. They are inspecting it so I guess they can say whatever they want. Ain't that the sh*ts.

So you are claiming this on your insurance and trying to get recovery of the deductible? I guess it is a claim against your comprehensive coverage? Some companies will take it as a claim that effects your policy rates. Some don’t. May want to check and see if they do.. it may cost you more down the road. Just a thought. I also understand wanting to just get it fixed.
