The guy next to me was spraying brake clean down his barrel every few rounds. While “testing” different hand loads. He had some sweet 2” groups and was trying to share his wisdom with other shooters. Always interesting!
yep, sure, why not

Tell me about it! I'd love to have your yard! Over the years I've brought the subject up many times, can't seem to get my wife over the idea of living around snakes - even if I do promise to kill the bad ones (in her eyes they are all bad)

Always interesting! Makes sense. I mean a 2" group shooter at 50 Y would actually be an elite shooter in Garland. Heck, anyone shooting tight enough groups to stay on HIS target and not put rounds on mine is considered a top Garland shooter in my book.

I go to Garland at least 2 times a month and see a lot of dumb things. The only thing that really bothers me is people that don't understand or can't follow basic firearm safety.

I see this at every range I shoot at except Jasons, he will let you know you messed up and teach what you did and the proper way to do it. Like Scott, I always keep my head on a swivel while shooting at any range OH YES... I have been guilty of a brain fart on the range, precisely while you should always keep your heads on swivels, even experienced shooters make mistakes.

Vortex Scopes dominate the Garland gun range. Seems like half the scopes I see at the range are Vortex.

I quit going to Garland a couple decades ago when we were about 3/4 of the way downrange during a cease-fire when some idiot sat down and started shooting. I left my target there, packed my stuff and never looked back.

A lot of things may have happened but Vortex has not replaced Leupold in the market. Probably has in market shares though.
Edit: I guess that’s exactly what it is. A replacement.

Most of the vortex I see have external dials, they got a jump start on where the market was heading while Leupold was still mostly building set and forget scopes.

I really like that I have my own 100 yard range. When I feel like shooting, I shoot. No worries about the public range folks. Still, I have to say that when I lived in Houston and went to public ranges, they were empty on Sunday morning in the off season. Just a few of us hard core guys would be there.
Once I had one of those loud fellows that can’t shoot for diddly and set up at the bench next to mine. He had his rather cute girlfriend with him and was talking nonstop about his 2” (or worse) groups. I was there with my 220 Swift, tuned up rifle, and hand loads. When the guy went to the head, I asked the girl if she wanted to shoot. By the time the guy got back, she had put a real nice tiny 5 shot group into the bullseye of his target.

Last time I spent much time a public range was when I first started driving. I would drive out to our local range mid morning middle of the week during the summer, nearly have the place to myself.

That may have been the most satisfaction she had with a man for a long time. Couple of years ago I was a guest on a big SW Texas ranch. We were drawing a crowd with what we were doing on their 1700 yard steel rifle range. The cow hands foreman and his wife were hanging around. She said "I want to shoot something". My bud Bill elbowed me and said "take care of the lady". I got out my 7mm-08 rental rifle, and placed it on the bench in front of her. I got her situated behind the scope, and told her "look for that sign that says 1000". She found it, and I cranked up the scope to 21X. Helped her with a few dry fires then looked through my spotting scope for a wind read. I quickly explained to her how to hold wind with the Mil reticle, and then placed the mag in the rifle. She squeezed off a round and over a second later my bud called "impact". She put three more down there, and was ecstatic. Her husband said "how do I top that?" I said, that's on you pal.
