A nice 21# spring Rio that I mounted for my brother. This bird had a 10 in. beard and 1 in spurs. Beautiful specimen. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/d4BQ6Dn/20200130-140313.jpg)

Nice work. Do you use the real head or a reproduction?

I used a reproduction head. Looks nice. Just curious as I haven’t mounted a turkey in 20 something years, was there a reason to shift to reproductions? They look just as good but wasn’t sure if there was a reason.

Freeze dry heads are the best but rather pricey. They do look good though. Reproductions are somewhat cheaper and not too bad. The real heads have a lot of shrinkage and are an older technique.

The guys winning at world shows and the NWTF are all using freeze dried head off the bird killed. Then they are painting them. They look absolutely fantastic. Black Wings Turkey out of Florida is one of the best taxidermist I have ever seen when it comes to turkey. Your mount looks really good as well.

Paul, That Turkey turned out great! Makes me want to get one mounted... just not sure I have room on my wall for a bird that big.
