Anyone remember when the lottery was gonna save us I do. That period between when the lottery started and before gas stations had pay at the pump was hell. All the pitiful dreamers trying to decide which lottery tickets to buy. It's still the biggest decision some folks make in a day. We're trying to decide if we're going to move, simplify, and hopefully lower our property tax. Just don't know how close I can stand to have another house next to mine. I can't do this current huge house 5 yards away from another one. Sure wish we woulda built this house all one level; we like our lot. Easy to secure "the perimeter".

I'll take property tax over state income tax. I'm not promoting a new tax as I hate um all, but school taxes are going through the roof. Abbott did implement a law (2019) they can't go up over 3.5% a year on property taxes but what the hey. In 10 years that could be a 35% increase. If your old and locked, school taxes are held in check but if not, whoa buddy. Speaking to the choir. Did Abbott eliminate the 10% per year they can go up on the property appraisal? Now refigure your taxes per year. I have grown to hate taxes/fees of all kind for any reason!!!! Politicians ARE NOT our friends for any reason. "politicians are like baby diapers, they need to be changed regularly, as with politicians every election. I believe they can go up all they want, they just can't tax you for more than a 10% increase. Problem is the rate is already too high, any reforms is too late and too little.

Gotta buy the local school a multi million dollar football stadium somehow.
Stadiums, School Admin buildings, School admin salaries and perks, massive high school that look like college campuses. I see Frisco ISD has Chevrolet Tahoe's that someone associated with the school district drive all over town in them, I see many of them being driven on the weekend. Why not buy Small Honda SUV that get great gas mileage.

Anyone remember when the lottery was gonna save us I will vote no for any tax increase I see, forever Supposedly 27% of lottery sales goes to Texas Education from the research I found on google, if that is the case seems as if the Texas School Systems is nothing but a black hole and will spend like a drunken sailor every year to give the appearance they need more money.

Based on my experiences, tax funds are viewed as income streams by many, not all, but many government administrators. I have never observed an incentive to stop the "use it or lose" altitude with budgeted funds. If only politians manage our money with same way they manage thier personal money. But that story would begin wilth....Once apon a time, in a land far a way..................
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

The school boards are elected locally. If you think you can do better, run for the school board and change the way they spend your tax dollars.

Someone needs to tighten the purse strings on local govt and schools.
I have several family members who work for local school districts. One recently said at the end of their fiscal year that they had a bunch of money left over, he heads the maintenance department and said they didn't want their budget cut for the next year so they bought several new trucks and trailers and mowers for the sports fields etc. that they didn't need just to spend the money.
A few months later at the beginning of the next fiscal year they were having to replace a roof on a building and just stressed they weren't going to have enough money.
How many $100,000,000 bonds have I seen. Nothing the school needs should cost that much.
Bottom line there needs to be more accountability and transparency to where this money goes. And there needs to be much more recourse when it is squandered away.

The problem is not taxes. The problem is spending...the folks managing the government check book are not being held accountable on spending.

Not Really, I did help vote down the Bond in Frisco a few years ago where they wanted to raise it in 2016, it was voted no.

I'll take property tax over state income tax. That's because your property taxes have been frozen for how long? What is your annual property tax bill? In Alabama my income taxes go up, only if my income goes up. In Texas, my property taxes went up based on how wealthy the county thought I was and was in no way related to my income level. When I retire in a little over 3 years, my property taxes will be frozen at around $700 a year. I pay no state income tax on SS and I'm allowed a generous $24,000 tax free income from my 401k, before the state income tax kicks in. Wrong. You may get state tax free withdrawals from your 401(k), but you will pay federal income tax on it unless your total income for the year in 24k. Texas does not tax Social Security either.........and who wants to live in Alabama?

I own property in three different counties I have had issues with each and every Central Appraisal District. The chief appraiser position needs to be an elected position and not appointed as it is now.

After 65 they will also let you pay them out every other month starting with the January 31st payment. You can make 4 payments total. Or, you can not pay them at all, but they will accrue with penalties and interest. They cannot foreclose on you as a senior citizen.
